I had a lot of fun making all the elements for the Christmas video, "A Message from the 'Big Man', Father Christmas Himself."
It's always gratifying sculpting a new character head, I feel like I'm slowly getting better! I like how after the basic form is made, I can start to register that I'm looking at a face. Every lump, bump and shape makes me feel like they're beginning to express subtle emotion, like they're feeling a certain way or thinking about something.
Along the way I learned some new useful techniques, for example I found out you can comb hair particles. I really enjoyed combing his beard, and I'm sure he enjoyed it too.
The eyes... there are none! Why?! Eyes are hard, they're very expressive and I couldn't get them to express a feeling that I wanted. No matter how much I played around with them I couldn't get it to feel right.
I opted for an eye-less face because it best communicated the feeling I was going for.
I'm really happy with how the overall image came out. For the next time I want to try and add more detail to the face, whilst not adding too much geometary that my computer crashes. I also want to work on eyes.
