Chapter 15 - New Life in God of War

There were also countless Hafgufas in the sky singing, a consequence of them releasing the other giant Hafgufa that was trapped underground. When the two giants met, they sang their final song and died, giving birth to thousands of small Hafgufas.

Moreover, Hyperion had added light protection to the fauna and flora, so even if the entire light source were depleted, Alfheim wouldn’t become a desert—a real risk, since the light source was consuming the realm’s resources because the Light Elves were exhausting it.

That’s why he made sure to warn the Light Elves. Many became more aware of what they were doing, but the elite among them were furious at Hyperion for revealing this truth to the rest of the Light Elves, who ironically had been kept in the dark about what was happening.

Well, those angry Light Elves ended up being entertainment for Hyperion and the girls, who used them as targets for a competition on who could kill more while holding back.

In the end, after slaughtering a mountain of Light Elves, both the Light and Dark Elves became fearful, obedient, and reverent toward the four precursors of nature.

Returning to the present, Hyperion and the girls mounted Nymeria, who began walking in a random direction.

On the way, they saw countless elves kneeling before them, cheering and crying with joy as they witnessed yet another part of their land being brought back to life.

At that moment, Freya was sitting on Hyperion’s lap, watching everything. A warm feeling of pride blossomed in her chest.

It had been a long time since she had felt anything close to this.

When she married Odin, her people considered her a traitor. And in Asgard, all her meritorious deeds were credited under the pseudonym Frigg, the affectionate name Odin used for her. But in truth, Odin always placed her merits under that name because the idea of a Vanir having a good reputation and earning merits among the Aesir displeased him. The mere possibility of another voice among his puppets terrified Odin.

Freya then looked at Hyperion, who was feeding her a grape at that moment. Hyperion had always been good to her, always pampered her, and treated her like one of his wives. He was patient with her, never hid her to take credit for her actions. In fact, he never sought any credit—he just did what he wanted and had fun with his wives.

She also knew he would do anything for them, even give his life if necessary. Though that necessity had never arisen, she could see it in his eyes.

She loved him deeply, and he loved her just as much.

Seeing Freya lost in thought, Hyperion dropped the grape and hugged her tighter.

"Freya, what’s wrong? Why are you downcast?" Hyperion asked gently.

Freya snapped out of her thoughts and smiled, feeling safe in his arms, warmed by the concern in his voice.

She had made her decision.

"Hyperion, I’ve decided—I want to be yours," Freya declared with determination.

Hyperion was stunned for a moment, but soon a wide smile spread across his face. The girls beside him also smiled upon hearing this.

"Hahaha, finally, Freya! You have no idea how long I’ve been dying to devour you! Hahaha!" Hyperion laughed loudly, his face filled with happiness, though he couldn’t resist teasing her at the end.

Freya blushed at his words and his hungry gaze. Well, he might have said it to provoke her, but it didn’t make it any less true.

However, Hyperion soon calmed down and looked at her seriously.

"Freya, have you really thought this through? Are you sure?" Hyperion asked in a serious tone.

"I’ve thought about this a lot. There hasn’t been a day I haven’t thought about it. But I always had this barrier… Baldur is my barrier, keeping me from giving you my all," Freya said, tears streaming down her face.

Hyperion couldn’t bear to see her cry and pulled her into his arms. He always felt that when they were in his embrace, he became the greatest pillar of support for his women.

Freya cried in Hyperion’s chest for a while. After calming down, she pulled away from his embrace.

"I know I’ve been foolish. I know you would never harm Baldur. I was just afraid… afraid of losing my pillar. Ever since my marriage with Odin became torture, Baldur was my pillar. That child was where I had placed my heart. Even though he hated me, even though I hated myself for making my baby suffer, I just wanted to do what was best for him. So, I cursed him with immortality. Even if he couldn’t feel anything, even if he wanted to kill me, at least he was protected. That was all that mattered. With that curse, Odin could take everything from me, but he couldn’t take Baldur." Freya spoke with sorrow and loss in her expression.

But this time, Hyperion didn’t say anything—he simply listened intently.

"But then I met the three of you. You gave me back the family I lost. Hyperion, you brought back the emotions I had discarded. You became my new pillar… don’t misunderstand me—Baldur is still my son, and I am his mother. I will never give up on him. But deep down, I know I have already lost him to Odin. Yet, just like the Hafgufas, I would give my life for my children. And if the price I must pay for Baldur to remain safe, for him not to become just another irrelevant death in the fulfillment of some damned prophecy, is for me to no longer be his mother… if the price is losing my pillar, my baby… then it’s a fair price. I have to do this for Baldur." Freya’s eyes held loss, but also unwavering determination.

But Hyperion didn’t look happy at all. On the contrary, there was a hint of anger in his eyes.

"Freya, I know that Baldur holds a greater weight in your heart than I do. And I understand—after all, he has been your son for over a hundred years, while we’ve only known each other for a little over a year. But how do you expect me to feel when you talk about becoming my wife as if it were a sacrifice, as if it were a loss? That’s not the kind of relationship I want. I think it’s better if we separate from now on, and when you’re truly ready, you can come find us," Hyperion said, beginning to walk away from Freya.

At that moment, Freya was shocked—she had never expected this outcome when she confessed.

Kratos and Faye exchanged uneasy glances. They hadn’t been entirely pleased with Freya’s words either, but they hadn’t expected Hyperion to be so angry.
