Also - DJ Premier, 50% of Gang Starr, is the quintessential boom bap producer. Generally regarded as one of (or the) greatest Hip Hop producer(s) of all time, and without a doubt one of the most influential. You should react to Cannibal Ox - The Cold Vein or CunninLynguists - A Piece of Strange if you want some more new (to you) music! Also RTJ 4 is getting more and more relevant by the day. Hope you'll be able to get to it in the near future!

2025-03-28 21:12:10 +0000 UTCThe way you felt at the end was a perfect example of what Gunn is trying to do. Mixing the grimiest, hardcore street stuff with the high class art and flashiness. Definitely glad you enjoyed this album, was skeptical if you would like it due to all the flexing and gangster talk. But I’m glad you were able to see what it was supposed to be.

2025-03-28 14:39:45 +0000 UTCListening to Westside Gunn, especially on this album, feels like doing a drug deal at the Louvre Gunn is widely known for having some of the best ears in hip hop, good luck trying to find a bad beat on any of his projects, it’ll take a while. He can curate an album like no one else He’s a perfect blend between high art/fashion and drug dealing with a sprinkle of wrestling This Griselda sound scratches an itch for me and while I don’t think he’s the GOAT or anything near it, he’s my most listened to artist. Albums like 10, Hitler Wears Hermes 8 Sides A and B, Flygod is an Awesome God 2, FLYGOD, and Pray for Paris are legitimately excellent compositions and his other 50 releases maintain a very consistent standard that makes me go back to them. It’s crazy

2025-03-28 14:32:38 +0000 UTCPray for Haiti soon🙏it’s the Yin to this album’s Yang Mach-Hommy is an extraordinary Haitian rapper who doesn’t let his lyrics get uploaded which will make for an amazing reaction, you’ll have a 1990s-era reaction Mach has been co-signed by the likes of Jay-Z, Mos Def, Black Thought, and others. He’s a gem of an artist and I really don’t think anyone is doing it like him. He mixes lyrical brilliance, flex talk, political messaging, introspection, and Haitian Kreol to make incredible pieces of art. Also, Professor Skye has an incredible video on that album that will bring it all together after you watch it. If Pray for Haiti happens, I will let one child go

Sports, wrestling and gangsta lyrics combined with beautiful classical samples and references to artists, architects, painters and many others. It makes for a wonderful contrast of what is considered high/low and art and not art.
