Call and Response: WOFF Dispatch June 2025
Added 2025-06-11 22:52:47 +0000 UTCHey, fellars! The purpose of this post is to call for your questions and prompts for WOFF! Dispatch. Please respond by Tuesday, June 17th by leaving a comment on this post.
We're looking for two kinds of things:
Suggestions for our long-form discussion prompt.
Q&A about the shows, behind the scenes details, and miscellaneous (including off-the-wall and off-topic questions). Ask us about games or other media, life in general... You name it.
One caveat we've given in the past: If the question is too personal or gross, we may dance around it and not give a direct answer.
Looking forward to hearing from you!

There has been a lot of talk about gaming as you get older and the ways it changes your gaming appetite. Personally, I'm only interested in "crunchier" games like Darkest Dungeon II or Caves of Qud lately. Gary, what's happening to me?

2025-06-17 18:08:21 +0000 UTCYou two have made it clear you've not really dabbled much in the blood price that is competitive online gaming, but for times when you have, I'd love to know: have you tasted the sweetest blood? My friends and I love to joke about the evil highs of online games: an opponent taunting you prematurely, only to face your counter-attack and scream in agony as you beat them, or facing an enemy using the most cynical strategy possible, only to be defeated by your plucky, goofy-ass strat? I'd love to hear tales of times you two have played online and indulged in the darkest of joys.

2025-06-17 03:35:17 +0000 UTCLoved the Yuri’s Revenge episode. Red Alert 2 is one of my favorite games ever, and not only for its top notch campiness. Underneath is a Swiss watch of an RTS that I lost many hours to in skirmish mode. Yuri’s Revenge revamped the formula so thoroughly that it might as well be its own game, but as a package with RA2, it is a paragon of the genre.

2025-06-15 22:29:00 +0000 UTCTopic Question: Obtuse Mechanics. Hey all. Recently I’ve (and apparently everyone else) had been enjoying Claire Obscure and encountered an interesting mechanic. At a certain point when you make camp you can converse with your party members and then the game will ask if you want to spend more time with them, leading to a deeper conversation. If you do so, you have dialogue options, but regardless of what you pick, at the end you’re told your relationship score increased by 1. The game did not explain what that meant mechanically for quite some time (don’t worry, it’s not Mass Effect BS). Without knowing the effect, I was enticed to spend more time with these great characters and invest in them more, even without knowing why. Can there be a positive value to obtuse or even unexplained mechanics? Cue World Tendency discussion now.

2025-06-15 22:28:44 +0000 UTCDo you plan to cover El Camino in a single episode? Will it have a response/behind the scenes episode after it?

2025-06-15 19:22:33 +0000 UTCHey Gary and Kaye, I've recently been listening to your cut content episodes for Bonfireside chat, and was really interested to hear you and Illusory talk about "Real Death" in Demons Souls. Given the recent release of Nightreign, it got me thinking about whether they had considered an "expedition" type approach to Demons Souls, and whether this was an itch they had wanted to scratch for a while. It kind of makes sense, with a central hub and then campaigns you can tackle in any order. I wondered whether you got this sense at all from any of the cut content? Whilst I've enjoyed Nightreign more than I expected, it feels like it could have been a real sliding doors moment. If this was something they had in mind from the start, I'm super happy that they landed where they did, and hope that this is just a side hustle to give them time to cook. Love the network, you folk are the best.

2025-06-15 10:42:36 +0000 UTCAs a long time Hitman fan, it was a joy to listen to you two grow to love Agent 47 for the uncanny competence golem that he is. Seeing him since become a staple in your references has made me wonder, what are some other video game characters that are in your top tier pantheon of all time faves? Do any other characters come to mind from games you covered for WOFF that surprised you and became favorites? Much love and hope you have no problems with your toilet.

2025-06-14 06:45:39 +0000 UTCHowdy G&K. Recently I've been watching the gaming YouTuber Any Austin a lot. He has a very unique take on making videos about games, video topics range from tracking RDR2's birds and studying their behavior to making an entire functional map of Starfield's pipe networks. If he ever pops up or you're curious I highly recommend. Because of Austin's videos I find myself following rivers to find their source out of curiosity, and because of WOFF I've been analyzing patterns and mechanics a little more as well! Because of how you all have shaped how I view / interpret the artform, I wanted to ask, has there been a non-critic that's shaped the way you interact with games? For example, knowing my 7th grade math teacher was a huge League of Legends player shook my worldview.

2025-06-13 17:52:28 +0000 UTCHiya, Gary and Kaye, I love all your shows but the one I always want more of is Unfilmable. Semi-relatedly, would you ever consider covering a serialised narrative podcast in the same in-depth way you’ve discussed Venture Bros., Breaking Bad, and Souls games? I know recommendations are the devil, but I think you’d both get something out of The Lovecraft Investigations from BBC radio 4. Thanks so much for keeping a light burning during these appalling times
