Great reaction, if you enjoyed Shoota I would recommend checking out more Lil Uzi Vert. Would you consider doing a Lil Uzi reaction?

Kinda late for this, don't know if he'll read this but P'ierre Bourne is mostly a producer, he does rap and sing in like an R&B way, but he is mostly recognized for his production and trippy vibey sound.

I think you should do his self titled mixtape too. It would be interesting given that u started basically from his most recent to his first body of work and the mixtape includes Magnolia which is his biggest hit yet, and location which is a top tier fan favorite.

Jay Dog

lol... it still cracks me up that I didn't get that

Bob_the_Poppop

T means T-shirt

Cole

Into is my favorite too

joe

And if you want to know where Outkast comes from, you have to do some Tribe Called Quest albums...i would say their 2nd and 3rd albums

CiviliNation

This will happen at some point. This album is being mentioned a lot

Bob_the_Poppop

Isn't it amazing how I can miss some of the most obvious things? I sometimes feel like a parody character from South Park or something, reading so much into something that isn't there lol

Bob_the_Poppop

Uzi's name is coming up a lot. Most likely, I'll do an album from him before doing Carti's Self Titled, just to mix it up (don't know when though)

Bob_the_Poppop

WLR was a tough listen for me as it was something entirely new to my ear. Took some adjusting, but this album did too.

Bob_the_Poppop

His live shows are pretty impressive. I've watched the NYC Rolling Loud show. Pretty epic with the rain/crowd/lighting, everything just going nuts

Bob_the_Poppop

Yeah, some of that content just gets boring to me. Predictable, I guess. And thank you for enjoying the fact that I'm not going to pander. That's a core part of this channel. I won't shit on it if I don't like it, but I'm not going to pander by saying everything is amazing either.

Bob_the_Poppop

I'd love to do all of Outkast's work eventually. Just gotta work them into the rotation

Bob_the_Poppop

lol, yes indeed!

Bob_the_Poppop

Cheers!

I'm really beginning to wonder if my not using headphones is part of this. I like my computer speakers, they're good, but headphones would probably put me closer to some of the sounds that are involved. I hate wearing headphones though. My ears start to hurt after awhile

Bob_the_Poppop

My pleasure :)

Thats kinda the secret to Kendrick Lamars success....When every other new artist on the west coast was trying to be the next Snoop-Death Row-Dre-Pac, Kendrick went another way, he followed in the musical footsteps of Outkast-Dungeon Family. Its not just Aquemeni, you can see it in every Outkast album, but Aquemeni especially

CiviliNation

carti's music is really subjective, and honestly its fine if all this album does is make you appreciate whole lotta red more. this album is considered pretty minimalist by trap standards, and really gives you time and room to listen to each individual aspect in the song. but again its the kind of album where even the biggest carti fans dont shit on people who say its not their thing

Personally, I'm not the biggest fan of Carti when it comes to casual listening, but his live performances are just something else.. If you haven't heard, check his performance on Rolling Loud NYC 2021 (you can easily find it on Youtube). To me, it's way easier to understand his appeal there.

you should check out Dijon’s album Absolutely!

Why do you say that? I love that album, but I don't understand the relevance to Kendrick. I don't listen to Kendrick a lot though, so maybe I am missing something.

Another wonderful reaction. We always appreciate the honesty. Much better than fake reaction channels where they always act like it's the best thing they've ever heard. I don't care much for Playboi Carti myself. I understand how someone could get into a groove with it, but I just get bored. On another note, I liked the part where you said you were disappointed that one of the songs aligned with stereotypes about hip-hop. This will not be the first time this happens. Stereotypes exist for a reason; it's because there is some truth to them. There is plenty of hip-hop out there that glorifies consumerism, mistreatment of women, and violence. Even the best artists will say something thoughtful one minute and something ignorant the next. Some of the best albums of the 90s - E. 1999 Eternal by Bone Thugs and Chapter 1: The End by Three Six Mafia do not defy stereotypes by any imagination. But they're great albums just the same. One of the challenges will be to see the good even when artists confirm your biases. I don't blame you, I feel the same way sometimes. Sometimes songs just turn me off. I get annoyed with the constant "I'm fucking your bitch" talk. I understand liking sex, but can't you get your own bitch?

Dylan Woods

If you want to know where Kendrick Lamar comes from, listen to Oukast - "Aquemini"

CiviliNation

I wasn’t never a huge fan of Die Lit. I like a good bit of the songs but it’s not really one of my faves. I fell in love with Carti after hearing leaks like “Molly” “Pissy pamper” and “skeleton”. Then I became a diehard fan once I heard Whole Lotta Red. I think it would be cool if you did a short video reacting to some of the unreleased Carti leaks because while they aren’t on an album some of them are his best songs

Lex

Merry Christmas Bob! It cracked me up when you starting talking about your wife haha Happy wife - Happy life

Last day of school vibes

HELLCAT

Perfect album to get drunk to and just vibe out and enjoy the sound sonically! Thanks for the reaction Bob. Making my holidays with these reactions.

Ace B

MERRY CHRISTMAS BOB! and thanks for the shoutout :))

Alex Bowlin

Something you said about Fell in Luv that surprised me was that you thought the beat was mediocre, and that you didn't really see it as very vibrant, because I personally would have to consider it one of the most lively beats on the entire record, the almost ghostly sound that sounds like a heavily edited female vocal mixed with the spritzy keys Carti is known for, I really feel like it's one of his best beats, perhaps you'll grow to enjoy it more on further listens, or maybe I'm just crazy, I don't know! That's what's fun about music, great video regardless, your ability to shift mindsets from TPAB to this is genuinely impressive for someone so relatively new to the genre.

Lil Mac

I recommend checking out Lil Uzi Vert - Luv is Rage 2, one of my favorite rap albums of the past few years. His melodic rap style is one of a kind.

Litty Again

I'm so happy to see this review. Your over analyzing cracks me up. "panties on with no T" just means she's wearing panties and no t-shirt.

Shaquan WP

You gotta listten to Uzi now (Luv is Rage 1 and 2 are both incredible and different from eachother)

Rasha Rahman

I feel the same way. I'm curious what my take on it will be a couple days from now, after getting in more listens.

Bob_the_Poppop

hell yea

And please, please listen to some Young Thug...the unintentional comedic lines that make you laugh, hes the very best at that. One of the reasons hes my fav artists is bc he just makes you smile...and he is THEE originator of the 'voice as an instrument' style, his voice and melodies/tones/versatility are hugely influential on guys like Carti/Uzi/etc most the newer era of hip hop. He also does not write lyrics, he comes up with entire songs by stream of consciousness. His album 'Jeffery' would be a good starting point.

Tyler Scott

I saw Carti live on Tuesday it was my favorite concert I’ve been to so far, the Narcissist versions are the one last he plays on the tour right now they’re awesome to be in the mosh pit for(also some of em have more guitar riffs than the edits do)

Cullen Hendricks

great reaction. I like this one way more than wlr!! also chief keef is on cant hold my liquor !!

daredevil777

Merry Christmas to whoever reads this comment 😂 haven’t been online in a while, was not expecting this. I’m excited 😂

Zach Gupta

Also 'Over' was one of your fav WLR songs and you talked about it sounding like it was reminiscent and old memories...its basically a 2nd part to 'Long Time Intro' on here. You will recognize it if you listen to them back to back. Both tracks are 2 of my favs off both albums.

Tyler Scott

When he says “hurt your feeling with the price” and “100 thousand yeah my price” I think that’s his feature price for him to give u a verse on a song

This album is def a grower and more like trance/druggy...the repitition at first is redundant but over time starts to get stuck in your head and becomes fun. Interested in the additional thoughts after more listens bc first listen i was lukewarm on it but started to get more into the zone with it and love it.

Tyler Scott

long time is my fav carti song. it sounds like the beginning of summer

----

I know you talked about the division between lyrical rap and trap / mumble rap type artists and how some more lyrical fans aren't huge fans of the other type and vice versa. I can say personally both Kendrick Lamar and Playboi Carti are in my top 5 favourite rappers so there are lots of us who enjoy both! But I agree that your brain really has to be in a totally different mode to listen to each.
