I don't think Angel wanted specifically to be porn star. Angel does seem to like performing so I wonder if being a “star” had something to do with him signing the soul contract, but he did not realize that it could turn into what it became. I went ahead and watched the entire season last week, but have been too busy to do a deep dive into any bonus material or interviews. However, I came across a comment when adding some songs from this show to my playlist that Valentino’s smoke has “manipulative” qualities. I literally shuddered when I noticed him blowing smoke in Angel's face right before the BDSM scene when watching this video. (The cigarette smoke is gray when he inhales, but is pink when he exhales.) The person that posted this mentioned that it is a fan theory that when he licks Charlie’s arm leaving pink saliva and then asks her to be a performer for his company that he was trying to use his powers on her, but she was immune. That person has a headcanon that Velvette’s “love potions” actually contains Valentino’s saliva because it has the similar heart shaped smoke. It is such a fucked up thought that a (self-harming) way that Angel “escapes” from his trauma, Angel is still indirectly being manipulated by Valentino. I don't know how accurate the entire statement is that I saw, but supposedly Angel/Anthony was in his 30s when he died of a drug overdose in the 1940s and was from a mob family with homophobic dad and brother. That along with the charm that Valentino sometimes displays gives me a little bit of an explanation on why Angel was in a relationship with Valentino.

He was a ganster (thats why he used tommy guns too) and sold his soul to valentino (its not clear for what). When he died and came to hell, valentino forced him to be a pornstar for him, he had no say in it and the whole persona he built was a defense mechanism, thats what husk wants him to admit the entire episode. And some things in life cannot be fixed. As much as we all want to see valentino die in this episode, it does not happen here. The whole point of loser baby is that no matter how crap your life is, you are never alone, there is always someone who can relate. And instead of giving in to hopelessness and self-destruction, it can be really worth while getting to know someone who can relate and who you can share your burden with.
