Podcast Day!!

This week i'm unpacking the faux morality people perform when they panic over minor's debuting as idols. Regurgitating the same points they see other people say but not looking at it with much nuance.

Dismissing the commitment and hard work it takes to train to become one and without considering what you would recommend a kid with dreams does in the meanwhile whilst you take their dream away from them? What gives YOU the right to think someone shouldn't do something because of how you feel? Do they not have any autonomy? Do the negatives magically go away just because you're now 18?

I also discuss KATSEYE and how they somehow missed the mark again after making such a bold statement with Gnarly. If ONLY HYBE and Geffen did it all perfectly because they made such a statement and now we have to wait months for ... something else?

Absolutely agree about the minors in Kpop “concern”. Concern is understandable and fine, but many people take it past that. There are people who try to boycott groups with any minor in it. I’ve seen it with groups when there’s one minor who’s 17 and months away from 18 😂 It also doesn’t extend towards Ahyeon in particular. International fans for a while have been saying things like “Ahyeon should’ve been a solo artist” and “OT6” and even “Ahyeon next S*lli which is so messed up on so many different levels. And this is a girl who just turned 18. In case you didn’t know, this is happening because people think Ahyeon is a “pick me” because she dances with a lot of energy and she always has amazing facial expressions and people started saying “She’s trying so hard to outshine her members” and “She should’ve been a solo artist”. Yet when Rami gave the same energy, everyone ate it up and praised her. I made a comment that stated “Everyone is all about protecting minors until it comes to Ahyeon” This lead many people to say things like “Kpop fans don’t know the difference between hate and criticism” and “Kpop fans try not to be sensitive challenge: Impossible” It was such backwards behavior. International Kpop fans love to talk bad about Korean fans, but don’t realize that rude and disrespectful fans exist across the world, especially in America. I’ve seen some crazy videos of American fans with people like Justin Bieber, 1 Direction, etc. Way crazier than what I’ve seen international fans call out Korean fans for. I’ve seen them call a Korean fan a saesang who stated she was on her way home from work and saw NCT Wish so she filmed them interacting with fans. She was about 100 ft away and the video was about 30 seconds max yet comments were stating “It’s sad that Korean fans can’t be respectful” and “I know Kpop idols wish they could work in America” How entitled do you have to be? It’s like people think that a celebrity who’s walking around in the day time on a schedule, shouldn’t be filmed. That has to be the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard. If people see Tom Holland walk down the streets of America, people will record. It’s absolutely bonkers that people think this is saesang behavior, especially when she was so far away. Sorry for the rant but if you read all of this, I’ll be glad because I need to get this off my chest 😅
