Blackswan Roll Up (MV, Practice & itslive)

Decided to make this a Patreon exclusive cos I was perhaps expecting too much from how much this was recommended to me.

The video is great as is the styling. I'm aware they're from a small company so they've done pretty amazingly with the budget that they have. That's pretty much where my praise ends.

The song sounds like a MUCH improved version of batter up and though that's the good thing, it felt very on the nose and heavily YG inspired to me which actually isn't a bad thing but I just thought as a smaller group they'd do something a little more unique sonically?

The dance practice left a lot to be desired (Sriya shines though) but also made me think of what would work for them. They lack a lot of polish that typical kpop groups have, even the rookies, cos of the resources and trainers they have so they should use that to their advantage and do something a little different. Maybe incorporating more of a raw YG stage presence energy as opposed to clean choreo or commercial baggy fun choreo with bounce like new jeans but not as complex.

They're definitely still getting used to each other and that's okay and as people have said, they've improved already from last year so fingers crossed this is the start of a great journey.

Enjoy!

It was the “sis you can not get up like that” that killed. I laughed way too hard but I am glad that you check them out. They are definitely getting better.

Thanks so much for reacting, I probably was a part of the overhyping issue but I was just really excited to have new music from my girls‼️ I agree with your point about their dancing, I expected more as they did well executing clean and powerful with Karma’s dance break. I also didn’t love the choreo this time around, very awkward especially without backing dancers.

Thank you for reacting to Blackswan! If you're referring to the discord, I am probably one of the guilty party in hyping it up too much. Apologies! I do still love how much they've improved since last year when they released Karma. Gabi especially, she was flat in some lives of Karma and now she can definitely hold a tune. Nvee was already good, but she has a lot more confidence now and I do wonder if it's due to her being more exposed to the Korean language. Syria is just a solid all-rounder and keeps on being a solid all-rounder, and Queen Fatou (my bias) brings the experience (she's definitely the most comfortable on stage) and I love how she sounds when she raps. I agree on your point that they need more polish and I hope this comes over time as they get used to being a group and performing together.

Yeah loved your honesty with this. I love to see their growth as girls who had minimal training before debut. Personally the dance practice ruined the impact the song because they usually perform with dancers which creates such a powerful atmosphere. All in all though I love where they are headed this is the right group for blackswan thus far
