Shrink Poker - Video Update

I've been working on it over the weekend, added a "shrinking" effect for the player.

Please let me know if it looks good or if there's something I can do to make it look better. Also, the shrinking stops at 17cm... but since there's no limit, I decided to mess around with it. : P

I uploaded a new video, zooming out for the shrinking effect and "lowering" the character a bit. I can't really do move much more than what's in that video because I run out of table and background. Let me know if that looks better or how I can improve it, please!

Panning is a static movement in a direction. Instead of the view focusing towards the ring at the end the idea is to keep the view on her instead. When you shrink, in order to keep viewing her at the right angle. The camera needs to look higher up. So when you shrink the camera is panning upwards to keep eye contact and zooming in on her because she is taking up more of your view. Even if you're much bigger it'd still need to pan up to level with her. When she shrinks, to keep a better camera view it should pan down some. But it doesn't need to zoom because it's her view that's changing.

Yeah, the "zoom" effect should increase as the character gets smaller, but since it's in a 2D environment (not 3D or 2.5D) it might be harder to have everything correctly placed at all size variations. I'll mess around with that some more before I head back home and post the results tomorrow or Saturday.

Basically this, the shrinking should be really small at the beggining but as you keep losing the amount of shrinking increases.

Oh, right, the other thing I thought about was that you should try to consider how much the size is changing *proportionally*, relative to their old size. Going from 34cm to 17cm is the world functionally doubling in size, but it doesn't look like nearly that significant a change in the example video. It's a difficult problem to solve with your constraints, unfortunately

I think this effect is a good step in the right direction. The things that stands out to me most is that for the first 3 or 4 shrinks, the FOV changes (by zooming in), but the camera 'height' doesn't begin to lower (noticeably) until the 4th shrink. I think making it lower a little bit more early on would help smooth things out a bit. Given the constraints of what you're working with, this is definitely better than no effect at all imo.

Yeah... it's kinda hard getting exactly what I want because I'd have to rework a lot of things, like the background to parallax and also to make sure that her body is positions correctly above the table at all sizes from all "angles". Then at smaller height I want her standing on the table, so I'd have to also adjust the camera for that. I know what you mean and made some small adjustments that I think might look a bit better base on what you said, but nowhere near what I want. I think I'll just leave it like that and maybe revisit this after it's finished.

View should pan with a focused angle based on the girl's size. It'd always have her head as the focal point. If she shrinks you'll look down, when you shrink you'll look up. Her size is just a value. While your size is a modifier.
