Jimin - Set Me Free MV

It's no secret I'm not a fan of this song, I didn't love Like Crazy either. My expectations were WAAAAAY too high because of how much love I have/had for him in the past.

Maybe I've outgrown him which happens with artists because he was my everything in 2019 and that was nearly half a decade ago. Maybe his next comeback will be more my taste.

Jimin - Set Me Free MV

I think that he wanted to tell his story of not being able to perform (what he loves) and that is why he chose that specific sound. Did you listen to the rest of the album?

Natalia GonzVille

I feel u. I LOVE him, but his solo songs here didn’t hit me that hard. I still love all his Solo's in BTS better, and i still love him as much as i did before, but we can''t love all they do u know. Maybe next time it gonna hit more, he may be trying new things so yeah. Happy for him thoo🤍

Elise Kapstad

I've been needing a 'safe space' to comment on this song (and the other one), its far too scary to comment on yt, imagine the pile on. So thank you 🙏 The auto tune, the gratuitous swearing, the repetitive (boring) chorus...i hated it. Even the clip would have been lack luster if not for the dancers accompanying him. Like Crazy was maybe 2%better and i hated the choreo. BTS choreo is what drew me to BTS so i feel really sad saying that.

Leela

Honestly i love „like crazy“, it‘s different but still Jimin… when it comes to set me free i am not sure how much of my liking is influenced by my love for jimin ☺️ what i know for sure is that i reallllly don‘t like the excessive use of autotune.. 😓 he is such a beautiful voice why ruin it with stuff like that😥 still i am super proud of him! It must be hard and so much pressure to compete with your past success

Ra Ku

The song is super mid imo. It sounds like he booked a Playboi Carti feature that fell thru but he released the song anyway. 🤷🏿‍♂️

One was already bad enough. Not everyone would take it that way but 3 comments was too much lol. Especially after I made it clear I don’t want those type of comments on these reactions.

Koko3op

I think the comment from Cee was fine, there is no need to block or was that person spamming everywhere else? Jimin (and most of BTS hiatus) is doing personal music and I can see where Cee is coming from

Mint

Great points! I also feel like when you reach THAT kind of level of success, what you relate to and the art you create can become out of touch simply because the life you live is one we can’t even comprehend. And unless you’re a hardcore fan, it will be divisive for everyone else. Alicia Keys is an example of this, her music has gotten corny the more successful she’s gotten lol, John Legend too, Katy Perry etc. BTS have surpassed even One Direction at their peak now and their music definitely had more grit in the early years so I can see more solo work going a similar route. Doesn’t mean it’s bad though.

Koko3op

I personally think BTS is entering an interesting stage in their career. They aren’t confined anymore to do the usual and they want to experiment. Each member is pretty much taking their own individual path musically and tries to distance themselves from the usual music they are known for. Naturally the results are very divisive. Not everything hits for everyone. For me personally I love the project Jhope put (even though it had to grow on me), but other releases so far didn’t stick as hard. I think one of the big problems with Jimins release is a lot of people expected a BTS Jimin release (dare I even say musically similar to Taemins projects) which made the disappointment even bigger.

Archstud

I've blocked Cee because their comments were annoying and specifically what I don't care for on Patreon.

Koko3op

Meh for you**. Music ain't for everyone and that's fine but what's the need to speak on a son objectively, when music is subjective. We dont all have the same ears. Meh is a huge understatement for me and many others

cee

You don’t need to harass everyone’s opinion on this post. It’s not that deep, it’s their speculation and opinion, accept it and move on even if you disagree.

Koko3op

what you** want. He gave me exactly what I needed and millions others needed. If the music isn't for you thats fine, but dont turn this into a 'he doesn't know what he should give to us'. I didn't know music was about appeasing people over doing what you actually want and wish to convey to the world.

cee

Imagine having an opinion and failing to accept others. I could just as easily say you have no taste, the numbers and success would do all the talking. You act like its your opinion or nothing and I just have to laugh at that, bc that's mad.

cee

Thanks for the warning. I actually enjoyed it. I'll catch you on the next one.

Yolanda Humphrey

This release was so disappointing for me. I didn't understand the direction for this. Trying something new? Fine but who listened to this and honestly gave the thumbs up prior to release. It's a mess.

Kym

I think honestly and this sounds really insane but those of us who have been around since the beginning probably all like Jimin’s releases more than anyone who hasn’t been around? And not in a bad way, it’s not anyone’s fault that the artist didn’t make a song that everyone would understand and not just those of us who know all the various sides of jimin. In my humble opinion it would have been better for his title track / pre-release to be a song similar to what he’s released before and Like Crazy and SMF both be bsides. But all that to say, like someone mentioned before a lot of people who are fans from 2016 onward were expecting the stuff jimin put out under bts. and unfortunately i think the level as a group when it comes to music is much higher rather than their individual music. My theory is that may come from the fact that they’re choosing the break to “make music for themselves” and “find themselves individually as musicians” rather than to appeal to the masses. Which is great for them but then things are coming out meh 💀

Tyra Pugh

I agree, and with like crazy, I liked it until the beat kicked in, I wish the song went for a more rnb direction sonically instead of going into an 80’s weeknd vibe

Juda Culp

“ ah ah not fuck off” hahshhshahahahah I’m dead, and share the same opinion, I didn’t really like this project

Cláudia Matonse

Im of the same opinion.. i had high expectations and he did not meet them. Now I wait for V and JK' s projects otherwise my BTS journey has come to an end.

Spooks

I also did not like this song when I first heard it. Auto tune did not do it for me and 100% agree re the repetition. I didn’t vibe with Like Crazy but I loved Face-Off. Someone PLEASE tell me what Face-Off reminds me of? It gave me nostalgia feeling of a song I have heard before and I just can’t put my finger on it.

Sarah

Agreed, I liked his verse.

Koko3op

Yeahhh I feel Taehyung will definitely go the more artistic unique route, fingers crossed.

Koko3op

Another random thought, Vibe (the duet with Taeyang) may have captured Jimin's charm better. Perhaps, The Black Label producers knowing what we (the audience) wants from Jimin

Mint

Imma be honest a lot of the BTS-hiatus music is just not hitting for me at ALL. Did not care for Left & Right or Bad Decisions, The Astronaut was nice but not playlisted, Indigo was a great project but I definitely prefer Mono as it made me actually cry while listening, and Jimin/Jhope's prereleases and title tracks have been both very underwhelming, no chills no tears no screaming, I was just like okay cool and then moved on. Dreamers was okay but since it was a World Cup song it doesn't actually reflect Jungkook's style/color. I think On The Street is definitely the best release so far. I'm personally dying to hear Taehyung's solo work because of his musical taste I know he will deliver what I'm waiting for

serenity

Self indulgent trap is the perfect description.

Koko3op

Me too! I think V could do something good too but I definitely have always been waiting for JK.

Koko3op

BTS is falling a bit into the self-indulgent trap that super stars get to. Not hating, cos if they genuinely enjoy themselves making the music they want and expressing themselves, all credit to them They are just at a point where the music made is more for themselves than for an audience. So, the audience for it will naturally get smaller as well. As a more casual BTS fan, its not for me. Though, I liked Jin's song cos I like Coldplay's sound. The one who is still producing commercial hits is Suga, maybe cos he produces for others, and doing so, he can't afford to let them down from a charts perspective

Mint

I agree. I think i've out grown him too. Something about the way he sings now is also not for me anymore. Tbh I think i've outgrown most of bts because their solos havent been hitting lately. I'm reaaaaally hoping jungkook releases an r&b album.

Hibz

Yeahh definitely. Like Crazy was definitely better although I wish the video was more exciting.

Koko3op

I think people expected him to come out with songs like serendipity or promise and that’s why they’re disappointed. Between his 2 releases Like Crazy is my favorite, Set me Free pt2 had to grow on me. His other songs on the album are my favorites though.
