Seventeen Attacca Album Review

They're back!!

Unfortunately this one of my least favourite release from them. I'm curious what your thoughts on this album are and do you get where I'm coming from?

Let me know!

Seventeen Attacca Album Review

Comments

Jan, thank you so much for this comment and understanding where I was coming from and adding even more nuance that I was not aware of. Not having clear direction must suck for sure but they do manage to make it work at least. It'll be interesting to see what will come after this!

Koko3op

I like your reactions because you're not afraid of being honest about what you actually think, which we definitely need more of! I can definitely agree on some points, especially with the change in influence since they've gone under Hybe. They're still self-producing but it's the company that's going to dictate certain sounds they want groups to follow. Personally, I think between Your Choice and Attacca, the b-sides on Your Choice were much stronger as their own individual songs. The worst song on there was easily Ready to Love (and I'll be honest and say it's their worst title track for me, hands down). t. However, I think as a cohesive album, Attacca just makes so much sense to me. I think with the lyrics, especially, it's very much telling one single story throughout the whole album, and then it rotates right back in the first one (the ending line of 2 minus 1 is the opening line of To You). I think part of the problem lies in the fact that Pledis have NO artistic direction whatsoever - it's very much on the members themselves to try and push a vision together, which doesn't make sense. They went into quarantine during Ready to Love. Woozi made To You while in quarantine, Mingyu and Wonwoo finished I Can't Run Away around that period too. They came out of quarantine - Jun and The8 were obviously going to China so Pledis decides they need to rush an album in weeks? They literally started working on the next album and filming straight away. They took the album promotional shots before they had even finalised the album - Woozi looked at the Hip Hop team's promotional teasers and was inspired to create Rock With You from there. They've resigned the contract and Pledis have FINALLY given them decent promotions and effort into the teasers/mv etc., but its literally like the creative team (seventeen members, Bumzu and Prism Filter, the dance team) are running around without a corporate leader to pull it all together. They've also literally been working nonstop for months - where is the time to sit and plan out a cohesive album together? All that to say, Pledis and Hybe suck and also, anyone that's attacking you for having valid opinions sucks too..

jan

Ha thank you!! You and the EXID agenda need to rest! Oh trust me, I promise I will never change. I can’t help it!

Koko3op

Yeahh some fans take blind loyalty for true love and I vehemently disagree with that kind of thinking. Many things can be true at the same time. HDHSHS I don’t see that happening tbh

Koko3op

I honestly could not have left a better comment than lola did! Ive been following micah for a hot minute and somehow we manage to have the same opinion most of the time. That doesnt mean that I don’t have times where I disagree with his opinions (im look at you and EXID). To call it something as a bias judgment, I think isn’t fair. He has always been vocal about being a carat and simply voicing his opinions about not liking the type of music that they are coming out with is his right. It’s great if you as a fan like every single music they put out but getting defensive isn’t the way to go about it when someone doesn’t agree. You can discuss your disagreement with them but don’t take it to heart. Truly Micah I appreciate how honest you are (sometimes even shady 💀) because people these days don’t know how to do that! I’ll unsubscribe the minute I see you bopping your head to something I know you don’t like. Moving to the album this vid is actually about, it wasn’t for me but I’m glad that Seventeen is doing great sales wise!

Maria Teresa

You perfectly described what I meant: „The fans who never want to hear critique don’t realize that they’re not helping their artists at all” - was so sad to see you attacked like this although you love SVT so much. Having said this: do not ever do this with Taemin 😉😂

Lola Montez

Lola I could cry. This comment is so beautiful. Thank you so much for seeing my heart and my love for Seventeen. This comment has absolutely made my day. Thank you thank you thank you! The fans who never want to hear critique don’t realise that they’re not helping their artists at all. Which is a shame. Thank you so much for jumping in ♥️

Koko3op

@Cali SVT: I am sorry to jump in here.. maybe you think it’s not my business but as you said I couldn’t help myself. First I am on this channel BECAUSE I like Micah‘s honest reactions, even if I also sometimes not have the same opinion. It‘s his channel, his subjective opinion, his choice. He doesn’t have to please everybody. There are millions of reactors out there who like every song just to please every fandom, to get more subscribers, etc. The irony is I started to listen the discography of Seventeen because he was so excited about them. So he is more a Karat supporter than you currently. Critics are there for development in each kind of art and never be „censored“ a long as it‘s not hurting anyone (what he never does). Kpop lovers have this tendency which is the worst thing in this industry. Micah, please don’t change and keep telling your honest opinion.

Lola Montez

You would think! Yeah I think some of them could grow on me for sure with the lyrics and meanings considered although as you said there’s some songs you just hear the potential from the jump. Calling out a clear change in direction due to HYBE and the increase in song writer is something that should definitely be noted and honestly spoken about within the fandom.

Koko3op

I think you took this very personally because I’m still carat till the day I stop and the fact that they now have several producers on their title tracks when before it was just Woozi and one other person, says a lot. So yes maybe them not sounding like seventeen was well founded when there’s suddenly these unfamiliar names in their credits that weren’t there before. Loving your artists yet not critically looking at their work will never be a good thing. Companies strip down their artists all the time, hence the “they” in my points. You really think HYBE being a shareholder did not change their trajectory? Please. The credits should tell you that alone. There’s no hate at all. Dislike and disappointment maybe but no hate to conc because I still love them, I’m not forcing anything on myself, believe that LOL. I will put up whatever videos I please. If honest opinions ruin your vibe then that’s on you! Also, opinions don’t have to be based on facts or knowledge? It’s just an opinion, sometimes it can be baseless AND bias, hence why you shouldn’t take it personally. Best wishes.

Koko3op

Micah, you know me and I know you from your reactions for quite a while now. Hence, I know you know that my intention for writing this is not to hurt you, however, I just have to say it because if I don't, who else? KPOP has been my genre since idek when, definitely for more than a decade now. As I stanned SEVERAL groups from different companies, I know I have all the rights to say this, too. Nothing, I repeat, nothing, is wrong with Seventeen's music. Saying, "they stripped away what makes Seventeen, Seventeen" is just utterly wrong. First of all, by "they", who were you referring to? Seventeen members themselves, as they produce their own songs? Why would Seventeen “strip down” what makes them, them? Seventeen is a no-genre group. They never stick to one genre, this reflects so well on their discography and this is what professional lyricists, composers and music producers in the KPOP industry admire the most about them, apart from producing their own music, and being the ONLY group in KPop's history to ever do so. The quality of Seventeen's music is what touches every fans, AND non-fans' soft spots. Their lyrics are being made as topics by famous poets and writers in Korea for the meanings that you barely, BARELY find in 90% of kpop songs. Recently, the lyrics to their song, “Hug”, was a topic to some sort of a lesson(?) with famous Korean poets. They are being acknowledged by not just kpop fans, but music fans in general. Calling their songs “cringey” as a way of expressing your opinion is not an opinion at all. It's like saying someone's outfit is ugly because they're wearing yellow and you hated yellow. There was nothing wrong with the outfit, you just didn't like yellow. You judged the person's outfit not by their fashion sense, or the quality of the material they were wearing not with the brand, and so on. You just hated yellow and there and then said, "the outfit is ugly for me, it's just my honest opinion". You can't conceal your hate by trying to use “Im only being honest” as an excuse. An opinion HAS TO BE BASED on facts and/or knowledge. Opinions and bias judgment are different. There was nothing wrong with Seventeen, nor their songs, and neither sound. It's just that you were expecting them to sound like something, or worse, someone (like some other group). You have to know by now that kpop, too, needs some sort of diversity. And Seventeen stands out the most when it comes to a diverse discography. After you listened to the songs once, without understanding what they meant and who they're meant for, I still respect that Attacca is your least favourite. However, your ”least favourite release” is on its route to becoming their most successful comeback so far. The songs in the album, including ofcourse the title track, are only touching more and more soft spots, attracting more and more non-fans. We all have our particular "genres". Soft spots. However you wanna call it. But don't force your own "genre" to any group and then say, "I don't like them, they don't sound like them", just because they didn't sound like how you were expecting them to sound. Let them be them. And this is SEVENTEEN. They are so far the second biggest boy group for this generation of kpop, and there's a reason for that. If they're not for you, you don't have to force yourself to like them, hun. But please don't put up videos such as this online again as it does literally nothing but ruin the vibe and excitement of those who worked hard and continuously working hard during this time of comeback. 🙂

Cali_SVT

I def understand what you mean. However I always appreciate how Seventeen does their own music. This is not in regards of them selfproducing but them making their own sound regardless of whats popular. They don't try to fit in with the current. I've always felt Seventeen's music is, majority, ahead of the times in a sense. In that way to me, they stand out. I have always found myself appreciating their music first then falling in love with it. The more you listen to it, the more you'll love it. Of course this is my own personal opinion. There are of course some songs I have LOVED upon the first listen & grew to love even more. I've been a Carat since before their pre-debut days & grew to appreciate all their songs even if I don't love them. I can proudly say though, to this day I have yet to hate a Seventeen song. Another thing that may change your perspective of the song is if you understand the lyrics & meaning behind it. Thank you for your honest feedback! It's always appreciated & no one should be upset because of it. You can still be a Carat & not like something.
