Conjuring the shield I focused as I waited until Blaise shot out a basic stinging hex which bounced off the shield charm.
It was a recent arrangement to be honest, but it shows results especially when I have someone to practice with, though I also believe full-heartedly that Blaise is only helping me out like this because he's actually getting more practice in than I am.
"Stupefy!"
I snapped my wrist down and shot the spell at him fast enough that he had to jump to the side before it plashed against the wall behind him.
Apparently Protego is a decently hard charm to learn on your own, and not often seen in use, but that's mostly because it hasn't been needed in the last couple years.
I'm sure it's more common than he thinks but I'm fine with him assuming I'm much better than I am for being self taught.
So that's what we're doing, mostly it was me reacting on using the shield charm, which I've gotten a much better handle on but jinxes aren't exactly all that strong.
While Blaise practices his spell speed and gets to have me help him on learning Protego. I also get to fling a spell at him every now and again, and I’m quickly becoming very good at aiming my wand for Stupefy.
"Diffindo!...Confundo!...Stupefy!"
The first two smacked against my quickly pulled out Protego and the last didn't even form. Another thing of interest, Blaise seems to have an easier time using spells that will cause harm than ones that only temporarily stun.
He didn't look very pleased with himself as he ducked out of the way of another Stupefy sent his way by me.
….
"Hello!" Sitting down I ignored all the shocked looks the Gryffindors were giving me as I grabbed the plate that appeared in front of me and started to fill it up with some items for breakfast.
"Uh, mate, what are you doing here? Shouldn't you be sitting at your own house's table?" I looked over to Ron who was in front of me with Harry to my left before grinning in a way that they knew I had found something new out, apparently my smile is unnerving to everyone now because of how not often I actually do it.
Still, I didn't let a little thought like that bother me though before I could explain, McGonagall had already approached Snape right behind her.
"Mister Grey, I believe that you're sitting at the wrong table" I just looked up at the two and continued to smile while explaining to them.
"You would think so, but as it turns out the only rule that the students have to sit at their houses table is only in effect at the start and end of term feasts and on holidays. Breakfast and dinner are completely open for me to sit wherever I want, so here I am."
That was a fun rule to learn about and I'm completely fine with exploiting it, as it gives me a chance to actually talk to the two without getting annoyed by background distractions, otherwise known as my entire house.
I mean they can still come over but this is an open declaration to them all that I don't give a shit about their politics and I still am able to be better at it than most of the ones that have challenged me to verbal spats.
After a moment, Snape who looked like he had taken a bite from a lemon, just sneered before turning and walking away with McGonagall looking at Harry and Ron, the two I had come over here to talk to in the first place, before deciding nothing was amiss at the moment and turned as well and walked away.
Looking back at the two kids I let my smile turn into a small smirk as I counted that as a success, while the two just looked at me like I broke a Sacred rule of Hogwarts, well it was more Ron than Harry.
I didn't bother saying anything more as I just took a bite out from the food I had gotten placed on my plate and started eating while Ron and Harry began to fill in the conversation.
I'm not overly talkative and they knew that so they just talked like normal and I would join in when I felt like it was needed or if I wanted to add something from my own mind into the conversation.
….
I was currently walking through the lines of books in the library looking for nothing in particular, actually I was doing it because I've already finished everything from this year's school level and I had already gone through and learned most of everything.
I think I'll need to know about counter cursing, while also learning a lot about normal cursing as well which was interesting, though I'm not very sure about how theoretically knowledge translates to spell casting.
Looking around, scanning the titles of the books, I stopped for a second before backtracking and pulled out one that I didn't think would be in the unrestricted section.
It was a simple book with the title of 'Ritualistic Magic: The Fundamentals'. I've taken to researching the basics of what classifies what type of magic as what.
Basically Dark magic is mostly just seen as most rituals, some jinxes, all Hexes and Curses, along with a few others that were surprising to see, like almost all counter curses are also considered dark magic just not in the same league.
Light magic is what is basically what is taught in the school at the moment, though Transfiguration has a branch called Vanishment that is technically dark magic as well, but as it can only be used on transfigured things or conjured things no one really considers it as such.
Potions is technically Grey magic, yeah that's a thing, took forever to actually find a book on it but it says what it says.
