The Mandate of Heaven thing is hilariously true, I'd love to see you guys do an episode that summarizes all the things and methods the CCP uses to give legitimacy to their rule. Basically using many imperial china era tactics with a modern twist like the media programs they did for "cultural revival" (诗词大会 and other similar shows) and all those ancient scriptures and the mindset of 自古以来 and 大一统，there's some interesting impacts on the older generation who are more traditional and the younger generation who grew up with it. It really seems to feeds the base to create 小粉红 and sowing distrust and training people to always finding an enemy as an explanation and solution to their problems. Oh there are some shows where they bring in a group of foreigners and talk about cultural differences and have to an extent sold it to college students who are the main viewing group as legitimate cross-cultural exchanges and to show how great China is, the one specific show I'm talking about is 非正式会谈. It's entertaining to watch but they barely discuss anything of actual substance and is censored and scripted like other shows only they have a good cast so it's more subtle, to a Chinese audience anyway.

I have a friend from Laos who is sending me tons of pictures of her villages and the flooding that is happening there because of china releasing water from dams. I have barely seen any news about this and imagine they can keep it quiet since Laos has become somewhat of a vassal state to china. I wondered if you guys had any thoughts on the situation.

I’ve now heard so much about Athletic Greens (My second favorite podcast is the It’s Always Sunny podcast / video cast and they too talk about it) I’m just gonna have to try it so I can decide if I’m annoyed at there million ads or actually impressed by the product lol what’s Winston’s take ? 2023-08-10 18:18:46 +0000 UTCI was scrolling through my news feed yesterday and there was a site pushing a story about a “viral video” of a guy balancing a coin while on a Chinese maglev. The article made sure to quote an anonymous comment from a Canadian saying “oh wow, we get shaken up like a champagne bottle going 80kph”. I didn’t have much hope for a site that popped up this summer calling itself “the cool down”, but that’s some hardcore shilling. It’s like if someone went and pushed stories in European press about how the US has the worlds most cutting edge deep sea oil drilling, with technology from BP right after Hurricane Katrina.
