Today we do a deep dive into something we have very close personal experience with. China had an English Speaking Cult called "Crazy English" that took over parts of the country for years.
In this cult, Chinese nationalism mixed with English speaking for some very strange reasons, and with very strange results.

2025-01-19 21:49:40 +0000 UTCActually i have been trying to help my gf with learning Swedish and she has this problems with both Swedish and English. Because no Chinese words end in consonants except n and ng that is really pronounced (n) and n in Chinese they fail to hear or pronounce hard consonants. It doesn't help some English also tend to do this while Swedish so much more clear. So i wished she would have listen a bit more to this guy even if it is some ridiculous.

Maybe they should all start screaming, "I have a cold!!!!" I do remember this guy, although up until now I didn't make the connection as to why people would randomly walk up to me and scream that they were Chinese - I could pick up on that from context. Liyang came to speak at a school where I taught, although I wasn't there. Apparently, a panel of foreign teachers was present, while he started speaking in Mandarin, telling all foreigners, especially Americans and Japanese, to go fuck themselves. He encouraged the students to cheat the foreigners out of their money with their English skills. It was, perhaps, one of the worst white monkey gigs available. And "white" had some significance here, since the school advertised that it only hired white teachers, and that Blacks or Indians or anyone else were not welcome there. Fighting racism with racism. Thankfully, these days, you don't need to scream in a foreigner's face anymore to amaze them. You just show them your passport.
