Video updated with new patrons in credits, tweaks/fixes, and a fun new Ladyfractic bit on the very end
Dear Supporters
As I get back on track after a busy week I'm delighted to share your very early access as we see if a 1987 Amiga can beat a 2020 Windows 10 PC in Battle Chess vs. Battle Chess - Game of Kings!
This will be the continuation of the popular "Old π New" Series, and I've created a playlist for all those videos if you missed any: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL7QScsJIdNE31QtcMEadAiNtVuCHFXMMq
Thank you for your ongoing support!
Your friend in retro, Perifractic
That was her "return to position" move. But yes there was a spider too π Chess Master is probably the best chess engine.

Ladyfractic was paying close attention to the ceiling, did you have a spider up there :), I used to love battle chess on the Amiga when i was a kid, and actually played chess master for the first time last night.

Thank you Steven for sharing that. It's hard to know whether I'm continuing to improve content or add fun things as I'm kind of inside the bubble, so I appreciate the feedback immensely! And yeah, I didn't know about the new Battle Chess until after the last chess video. Hopefully everyone finds it as interesting! And yes didn't Queenyfractic do well! πΈ

I've watched every video of vintage versus modern computers playing chess on this channel, and I have to say, this is the best one so far. Although I never did learn how to play chess, my Dad had Battle Chess on CD-ROM for DOS and enjoyed playing it immensely. I've since inherited his copy since he passed over a dozen years ago and have been meaning to learn to play...I'm glad to say that this video has inspired me to do exactly that. To be honest, I never knew that the same developer released an updated version on Steam for PC five years ago...I definitely have to check it out, so thank you for letting me know that this version exists.
I would agree with you that the animations in the Amiga version are more entertaining, with a more humorous tone, but the PC version's animations are just BRUTAL. Although I would have loved to see the animations from the Amiga version recreated for the PC version (even the more risquΓ© ones; perhaps in an update?), it was definitely interesting to see the developer change things up rather than retread what was done before. Ladyfractic's performance as the Amiga Queen was just awesome and really added to the entertainment value of the whole video; her imitation of the queenβs menacing stares from the game were absolutely amazing, and if I may say, at times quite intimidating! No doubt that was the whole point, but I just wanted to let her know how impressed and entertained I was by her performance as well in the video.
So thank you for the entertaining and informative video; once again youβve both outdone yourselves. Have a good one, take care, and stay safe. :)
