Thanks for making these videos! I look forward to them every week. As a Bears fan, when they are struggling as much as they are, your breakdowns and commentary are more fun to watch than the actual game. As someone else said in the comments, it’s cathartic. It’s also really interesting hearing you break things down schematically. I’ve learned more from your videos on play design, pass protection, how a QB actually operates, you name it, than the rest of my life combined. I’m just a casual fan but it’s still interesting to learn after all these years of watching football. You’re doing a great job!!
Also, the Bears have a million issues, but watching Deandre Swift play football is incredibly frustrating. It feels like he’s running around with a blindfold on half the time.

First time we broke out the booze this season; this tape gave us teacher anxiety and got us in our feelings.
It's pretty clear who is who in this analogy:
Bad teacher giving all the attention to the bad students while ignoring the good ones. Good students develop bad habits and become bad students. Admin is asleep at the wheel. The solution was get rid of the teacher's aide. Rinse and repeat. Sorry, not trying to be a debbie downer but holy fuck.
Edit: We took a shot at the camo segment. At least the DoD isn't paying for it anymore.

Anything except Bears tape would be better; it's not even a fun or informative dumpster fire at this point.

"I'm not familiar with the skip route down the middle of the field." - JTO man you are hilarious. Please, please, please continue to do these breakdowns for every Bears game for the rest of the season. I'm a lifelong Bears fan out here in Hollywood not far from Burbank (shoutout Porto's Bakery), and watching your breakdowns is the only enjoyment I'm getting out of watching Bears games these days.
The Bears are an absolute dumpster fire. I can't say I'm surprised, I think Hard Knocks got Bears nation all lathered thinking this team could be great and ignoring all of their flaws. From the FO, to the head coach, coaching staff, QB, WRs, OL, etc. all the way on down. And the lack of effort on these plays is perhaps the most alarming thing. At least the Defense looked good for a while now but they've unraveled too ever since the Hail Mary in Washington.
Thanks for the laughs and keep up the great work JTO!

I don't think people who actually want a NFL coaching job want to be the new OC. Low/no effort from 2, 13 can't get consistent separation and a bad oline

This is what happens when Matt eberflus is ur coach. 200 club, 2 tds no turnovers. Hey kid, take care of the ball no turnovers. Ur def is good enough just play it safe. Every position should end with a kick. Fields was much more aggressive under Matt Nagy. Flus comes in and becomes a shell of himself pass wise. Now Caleb is trending in the same direction. Quite frankly... If Caleb doesn't recover from this season, Flus should serve jail time. Bears organization makes me sick to my stomach.

If I was DJ moore i’d be pissed too that keenan has been force fed all year, even in preseason. Doesn’t make sense DJs effort probably only makes it worse. Total failure this year those guys are making $50 million combined this year just about what mahomes makes. Awful

I'm not a fan of the Bears, but I've seen all these Bears' videos.
I can't help but feel, watching this week's tape, that at a certain point (probably the start of the second half), Caleb concluded, "I can't trust anyone unless they're 5 yards open."
Almost the entire game, the Patriots have been in every receiver's pockets in man. He knows Allen is basically washed as a physical threat to the point he's becoming their Adam Thielen. I don't think Moore gave full effort on one play this game, and why should Caleb trust him to get open knowing that? Rome is on the field once a solstice and was getting blanketed, and Kmet is on the field regularly, but it seems like he's always the 5th option in 4 WR sets, and the waterboy is ahead of him. Does Swift get a target? Then there's the wind.
This reads like I'm making excuses for Caleb, but I could at least see SOME things opening up in prior games in a way where this looked almost futile, and if you don't trust your teammates anymore, it probably is.

Best JT quote of the video: “Can Caleb throw that away? Yes. Do I want him to throw it away? Yes. But does he have to save us on every single play?”
I think that about sums it up.

If Eberflus has coached the aggresiveness out of Caleb, look for more interceptions from here on out. Caleb now knows Eberflus is a lame duck. So if I were Caleb, I'd start having some more fun now. What the hell, right?

2024-11-12 01:25:40 +0000 UTC
And why in the first half was there not a single play where a guy was just running open? Patriots had their TEs running across the middle of the field open multiple times. Why can’t that ever happen to the bears? Everything is so hard.
(Btw Patriots players after the game said the bears showed a bunch of tendencies on tape, so maybe that has something to do with it…)

Why is DJ pissed he didn’t get the ball in the first half? He was open TWICE. He’s acting like he’s beating guys on every play

Pausing at 45 minutes in to just point out that the only real BAD on Caleb so far is the first sack he took where he should’ve thrown to swift in the flat, and a bad throw on an out route to DJ on 3rd down but JT even said DJ ran a shitty route. I’m sure it gets worse from here! But it’s interesting that in the first half, there’s more things failing Caleb than Caleb failing the offense

I think Brett Kollmann put it best, when talking about Eberflus: "Matt Eberflus is the 7th best HC in the NFC North." There are multiple teams in the NFC North with better HC's than Eberflus on their staff in lesser roles. Pretty hard to compete for the division when that's the case.

I wish JT had a call in line. This was my biggest worry with Eberflus with Caleb. He has this "200" method (2td 0 ints 0 sacks) and has a "end every drive with a kick" philosphy. Caleb is having what made him GREAT, coached out of him and being told not to do it. Its sickening and its malpractice. Do not get me wrong, hes not playing well. But part of it is because of what he is being asked and told to do. Caleb is naturally a great pocket passer. We knew that in college. When you take away his gift of extending and being a little risky, and force him into being a guy who does the bare minimum and the "dont be superman" mentality, it hurts him. Let him be Superman. Allen Burrow Mahomes all get to be super man, while still doing the right things. So can Caleb(also im not sayin he is any of those 3 right now...hes not...but he can be and was drafted to be, because he showed he has that ability"
Jake Sellner
2024-11-12 00:18:56 +0000 UTC
Hey JT, do you think they're coaching Caleb to not go out and extend? Caleb looks so robotic at times and it looks as if they only want him to stay in the pocket or throw it away, that's it. It doesn't look like they're giving him that freedom to create and extend

Caleb could be a lot better right now, but there’s too many problems on offense and with coaching for me to blame him or lose faith. I know what I watched at USC and Oklahoma. I’m still confident in his abilities under a different coaching staff (or maybe different team in three years)

JT, I saw this on Reddit today:
...
How many former QB's are on the Chicago Bears' Offensive staff?
.5
The QB Coach is a former safety...and journeyman CFL QB
And the OC is a former Division 8 Tight End.
No one in the room who can relate to the QB. No one who has been there before. No one who can relay experiences and see the game through the QB's eyes.
Edit: And I forgot our Passing Game Coordinator was a college Running Back
...
How bad is that? Seriously!

Call me crazy BUT…
It feels like every bad miss Caleb has is so far away from any defender. Every time he airmails a pass it’s so far away from any defender it’s mind boggling. I remember Eberflus preaching to Fields don’t turn the ball over constantly. His press conference is only ever “complementary football, no turnovers blah blah bullshit”. Feels like Caleb has had any sort of aggression coached out of him and he’s just being told be a robot run the offense don’t turn it over. That’s it.
