He had some nice throws, no doubt, but that fumble hurt bad and Pickens ate. Latu losing contain on the 2nd TD was horrible. Fields seems so close but it's been the same thing for years. I just get frustrated with dudes who don't have strong processing and skip reads (edit: changed turndown to skip)

I watched that tape and he played very well … fields is inconsistent but they colts defense is better than this one

Hey, I'm new here and not trying to come at you sideways but Fields said on live TV that he's not him. Been watching the Colts since '96 and they have one of the worst defenses since the PLAYOFFS?!? rant. You won't like what you see if JT shows that tape.

Not really pressed about it. Just a sideline connection I noticed from last season.

You're reaching so hard on this it's absurd. There's so many factors as to why in that one situation Wilson didn't acknowledge Fields that to stretch it to the potential of his teammates not liking him it's obvious where your bias lies. Get over it, he's not even on the damn team any more.

It’s just funny because there’s a lot of quarterbacks that do this same shit around the league and make 50 million a year. I see the flaws but to put a 35 year old behind your backup o line against the jets front line is just not very smart.

Can’t be an easy position for JT to be in eh? Posting material online then having a thousand personal opinions asking to do things differently. I’m sure he’s put plenty of thought into it, tried some different things & is doing the best he can. Life is pretty good when my biggest problem is which qb’s JT’s breaking down on patreon. Now that I understand the new Qb perspective I won’t complain about it again. I’m in.

JT, At around 23:15, when you were talking about Russel Wilson not acknowledging Justin when he ran by him on the sidelines, I also remember that happening in Chicago last year. Justin would get knocked down out of bounds and it seemed like no one wanted to help him up. The coach didn’t even pick him up.
Contrast that with this year, if Caleb Williams gets knocked out of bounds, the whole team fights for him.

JF today, agrees with you. “Justin Fields: "I don't think I played good enough, if I'm being real with you. If I'm being real myself, I think if I did play well enough, I don't think there would be any sort of, who should be playing, who should not."

I know I'm the minority, but I highly prefer seeing guys struggling and understanding why they're struggling than looking at the top QBs that he's already covered several dozen times already. Nobody needs to see Mahomes or Purdy to understand why they're successful. Meanwhile, diving into why Lawrence is struggling would be far more interesting.

JT have you ever considered doing a podcast? One thing I like about this video is there is more of you just riffing and discussing the broader topic of Justin fields and Pittsburgh QB. Would enjoy hearing you riff on other NFL topics independent of any film study

34:58 this is drift-strike in the shanahan world. You are correct in that it’s a 1 drift, 2 blaze out at 18-20 yards. Have to throw it. Have to.

This was by far his worst performance so far as a Steeler. This game looked like same old Justin but I think most would agree that there is improvement vs last season.
I am curious in your opinion JT about the idea of would Tomlin still have made the change if this team is 5-1 or 6-0?
The two games they lost were the Colts game where Justin played one of his best games as a passer and was the only reason they were in the game. The other was the Cowboys where Fields only played OK and they lost on a game winning 4th and goal conversion by Dak. Both games he did enough to not have the losses be because of him in my opinion…
I guess my point overall, is it fair to watch one game of tape and be like “yeah, we could’ve been 5-1,6-0 but this tape is so bad we have to move.”?

I feel like I don't even have to watch this game to know what happened and to why they are making the switch as a Bears fan and also fan of him it sucks to see I hope the guy is one of those phoenix riser QB's the league has seen but if that does happen its not happening this year

I find that JT does the better games over on YouTube, and saves the in-depth for games where he wants to see what happened. I like both. The Kirko Chainz breakdown was a breath of fresh air. I don’t know if I’ve ever before heard JT analyze a game where almost every play was, “He played that as well as you can do it.” The ones where the QB has freakish talent and makes plays he shouldn’t have attempted are really cool too. The young-and-struggling can be okay if there is improvement over time. I’m burning out on JF a little though. He should be elite, and you always think he’s going to get there, and it makes him frustrating to watch. Maybe he’ll rise like a phoenix someday like Baker did.

Bears fan here. In week 8 (Caleb vs Jayden) you should do one long film session with both QB’s and break down their film series by series. Would be an awesome back and forth story line while breaking down the two rooks.

obviously it's cool to see a guy light it up, and you do see that (eg all J Daniels tape this year), but more often than not people want to understand what's going wrong as opposed to dissecting what is driving things going well. maybe a human condition thing

For real. You can’t blame the O-line on not being able to read zone defense or throw the ball fast enough.

As a Bears fan I was really hoping Justin would’ve improved after leaving Chicago, but I haven’t seen a lot of growth in his game. This is the first time I’ve really watched tape on him all season and it all but confirms it for me.
16:33 - This is Justin in a nutshell. Doesn’t see a soon-to-be wide open shallow route going across the middle because he has such a hard time reading the defense or throwing with any anticipation. He made up his mind on where the ball was going well before the snap because that’s the kind of throw he feels comfortable with settling for.
34:20 - This is why you at least give Russ a shot. Dude is schemed WIDE OPEN and you miss him.
1:28:48 - THROW. THE. BALL!!!
Great stuff as always JT! I know you’re a big Fields guy so I hope you don’t catch too much hate for speaking the truth.
