Blog: (03/21/22-03/25/22)

Apologies, I meant to post this blog on Friday but I completely forgot!

Monday, March 22nd

Today was a risky day of filming! I had to shoot b-roll for various Mario toys. One of them is this little boat. It has a battery-powered motor and shoots bubbles out of the top of the blue tank.

I thought I could film this from outside the tub, but the angle was awkward. I needed to get eye level with it. So I put my camera on an old tripod and put it in the water!

I had to be super careful, but I ended up getting the exact shot I wanted.

I had a great day of editing too! I should have a rough edit of Part two done by tomorrow.

Tuesday, March 22nd

A rough edit of Part two is done! For the rest of the week, I'll be adding background music, adjusting the pacing, fixing a few narration mistakes, and more. I'm over halfway done with this project!

Wednesday, March 23rd

I wanted to find a fun way to show the evolution of Yoshi. So instead of just showing sprites on-screen, I decided to make the pixel art by hand on graph paper with colored pencils. I thought it made everything a little fancier! I actually streamed myself completing this work over on Twitch (http://www.twitch.tv/gaminghistorian).

I actually started coloring this yesterday, but I ran into a problem: I didn't have a pencil sharpener! So I ordered an electric one from Amazon with one-day shipping. It saved the day!

Thursday, March 24th

I finalized about half of Part two today. I shot some extra b-roll, recaptured some game footage, and added background music.

In the shot above, I show various block types found in Super Mario World. Again, I didn't want to just show the sprite on-screen. So I scanned the Super Mario World instruction manual and put the blocks into an image. Then I went to a FedEx Office store and got the image printed. I know it seems silly, but I think it just looks so much better than showing a sprite.

Friday, March 25th

I wasn't able to finish Part two, but I'm almost done! I had to do some other stuff today as well. I made a TikTok about Kingdom Hearts, cleaned the office, and answered e-mails.

Here is the upcoming Footnotes schedule for April!

April 4th - Gamecube Component Cables
April 11th - April Console Game Sales
April 18th - Super Metroid 28th birthday
April 27th - Kirby's Dream Land 30th birthday

See ya next week
