Blog: Editing & the last Super Mario World translations! (10/18/21 - 10/21/21)
Added 2021-10-21 22:47:26 +0000 UTCA sports update: The Miami Dolphins lost again.
I had a great weekend. I spent most of it in my basement, putting together a little workshop so I can build/repair furniture. It's a hobby of mine.
On to the work week!
Monday, October 18th - Finalizing and recording the Mega Man Universe script

This morning, I finished editing and revising the Mega Man Universe script. After lunch, I went into the studio and recorded everything. Surprisingly, I only had one error I needed to correct!
Afterward, I went ahead and edited everything so I can start video production tomorrow. The entire narration file is about 17 long, so I'm going to guess the episode will be14-16 minutes long.
Tuesday, October 19th - Editing begins

I started editing the Mega Man Universe episode, but I spent most of my day in After Effects. At the beginning of the video, I touch on how Capcom focused on making games for a global audience, not just Japan. So I throw a bunch of statistics and numbers on the screen. I wanted this to have some polish to it, so I went into After Effects.
Admittedly, I don't use After Effects very often. And when I do, it is a simple highlight. So, I watched some tutorials on YouTube on how to do some cool text reveals. It took me a while, but I got it looking somewhat respectable!
I edited about 1 page of the script today. 6 more to go!
Wednesday, October 20th - Back to the game store

Today I did something I had not done in over a year: I went into a video game store! I had to buy a few games for b-roll in the Mega Man Universe video. I picked up Bionic Commando, Lost Planet, and Dark Void. I got all three of them for about $21. Not bad!
I also recorded footage from all three games. Dark Void was easily the most frustrating experience. I had actually never played this game, but from all the previews I remembered a guy flying around on a jetpack. Well, you don't really get to do that until about 2 hours into the game. When I record footage, I try to get the best gameplay possible that really sums up the experience. I really wish that would have started right away in Dark Void!
Editing is going smoothly. I think early next week, I'll have this one wrapped up.
Thursday, October 21st - The first Super Mario World Reviews
Here are some of the first reviews for Super Mario World. Surprisingly, a few reviewers (like TACOX) weren't blown away by the game. He says...
"The number of features has greatly increased, but it feels a bit stale compared to Super Mario Bros. 3. It's definitely far more interesting than a lot of other games out there, but... Something about it just didn't quite hook me."
The translations are all done for the Super Mario World research! I still have to take notes on a few more sources, but I think I might be writing this episode soon.
I also edited more of the Mega Man Universe video today. I'm about halfway done. But now it's time for the weekend! I might edit a bit here and there, but my big plans are to rake the yard. Leaves are starting to fall, so I gotta stay on top of it.
