Blog: Finishing Up the Mario Names Video (09/25/21 - 09/29/21)

Saturday, September 25th - Rough edit DONE!

Whew, the rough edit is finally done! That Donkey Kong section was a beast, mostly because it dives into a lot of documents, which means lots of highlighting effects.

I still need to add music, shoot a few b-roll shots, modify for pacing, and add end credits. I'd say this video will be around 20-25 minutes. 

If everything goes smoothly, I should have a preview for you tomorrow. I can't wait to share it with you all!

Sunday, September 26th - Overtime

An early preview is now up on Patreon! Although by the time this blog is posted, it will probably be live on YouTube too. 

 Tomorrow, I'll make some minor adjustments and send it off for audio mixing. Hope you enjoy!

Also, the Miami Dolphins lost in overtime. =(

Monday, September 27th - Thumbnail time!

I spent the morning making some minor adjustments to the video. There were a few pacing issues and I cleaned up some of the images. Next, I had to come up with a thumbnail. I wanted to keep the theme of Mario toys, so I tried to find a good setup. I wanted all of the characters visible, but I also wanted Mario to kind of be the center of attention. After some tweaking, I came up with this:

I couldn't fit "How the Mario Characters Got Their Names" in the thumbnail, so I shortened it to simply "Naming Mario & Friends." I'll keep the previous name as the YouTube title. 

And with that, this project is basically done! The video should go live on Wednesday.

Tuesday, September 28th - Business stuff

With the video done, I had to catch up on some other things. I mailed out Patreon rewards, did some research on best practices for YouTube, recorded a new commentary, and wrote up all the sources for the episode. 

I also checked out some new features on Twitch. Holy cow, there is SO MUCH more you customize now. Back in my day...

Anyways, I did think about what video I wanted to tackle next. I'm trying to decide between three: Mega Man Universe, NES Light Guns, and Microsoft's 3 Biggest Mistakes. I think I'll be putting up a poll to let you all decide.

The audio mix came back and the episode sounds great! It's going live tomorrow.

Wednesday, September 29th - Launch day!

Hey, the new video is now live!  The dogs are happy this project is over and they can relax in the basement again. 

I also posted a new poll and the commentary video on Patreon. Please check them out when you get a chance. 

A new project begins on Saturday. But in the meantime, I have to help my friend move to his new home tomorrow. Thanks for your support, everyone!
