One concern regarding my improvement patches is that sometimes they make the enhanced games run too fast. Although some people defend that it's the way that the game was originally intended to play, other people argue that it ruins part of the gameplay, by making it excessively too hard and the devs probably would have made them slight slower if they were made with the SA-1 chip in mind.
Regardless of your viewpoint, today part of this issue will be solved with SA-1 Root Addons. These are additional, optional modifications that lets you choose how fast you want to a patched game run, allowing you to pick either a faster experience, with objects moving faster or a slower one, with objects moving slower but still with the game running with many frames as possible, thanks for the SA-1 chip processing power.

GuyPerfect made a great effort with the first SA-1 Root addon: the addition makes the bosses Goliath, Bubble Eye, Big Core Mk-III, Twin Vaif, Vulture Dragon, Choking Weed, Crystal Core, Big Core Mk-II, Covered Core, Derringer Core and Disrupt run with a more fair speed. They are not running as fast as before, but still there is no slowdown. This means that they are still running at 60 FPS, with smoother movements compared to original.
We can state that the SA-1 Root: Origin version of Gradius III makes the game easier compared to the SA-1 Root: Base version.

Race Drivin' SA-1 Root makes the game jump from 4.77 FPS to a blasting 30 FPS speed up. To not make the game impossible to play, Delta-Based Frame Correction was introduced to control the internal game play, by monitoring how many frames passed and based on the value, adjusts the internal speed to match the user experience.
Given the game runs up to 140mph (around 230km/h), I took the freedom of adjusting the internal timers to let the game run up to 80% faster compared to the average SNES original frame rate. This means that Delta Based Frame Correction would keep the game play like the SNES original version plus ~79.78% speed up to make it feel more realistic. The side effect of doing that is the controls are more responsible and people argue that this made the base version too 'icy'.
The origin version however, takes exactly the average frame rate that the game used to run and makes the play exactly as-is, 1:1 speed ratio. The game is still running at 30 FPS, but it feels like the original SNES version running at 4.77 FPS, except with smoother frame rate. The controls stays the same as the original SNES version, so the gameplay is actually harder because the controls takes more time to respond.
So unlike Gradius III, the SA-1 Root: Origin version of Race Drivin' makes the game actually harder compared to SA-1 Root: Base version. Speed reduction does not necessarily means the game will be easier after all.
