2026-01-30 17:10:26 +0000 UTCNo I have to disagree in one respect. There is no grey area in any first nation military (which are the only ones that I have enough knowledge to speak on.) Unless combat conditions are currently involved, no one has the authority to overrule medical officers opinion on one of their patients under their care. That rule goes all the way up to the Commander in Chief, which Abel currently is not. Tell you the truth I am a little unsure what Abel's position is besides in the high command.

She has the MIND in her ear after all, but yeah it is odd no information has been shared even among the schools as an early heads up compared to the masses so the cadets can be prepared. What’s the point in have Rei be pushed so hard in this “off season” of sorts if his competition weren’t preparing for tournaments after their first year Sectionals? Arguably Firesong needed the head start so that everyone outside of Aria and Rei can catch up to high tiered 1st years on Earth or other planets/systems. For wanting more “spears” over individual powerful “nukes” on the frontlines, Abel and the ISC are holding themselves back by not having every cadet train their hearts out.

But I’m still stomped at why the announcement for globals hasn’t been released, and I’m only saying this because if Abel wants to see just how strong Rei and the team is (collectively) wouldn’t globals and beyond do just that. Not to mention she would be able to be present not cause a rift, and get answers. Maybe this is just wishful thinking on my part but Abel being there just seems out of place considering no one knows what could be coming besides Rei, Aria, and Guest.

2026-01-27 10:16:48 +0000 UTCI’m not sure what’s the plan for Abel in this story you know? She really just feels she’s this book’s villain because without her there isn’t one. Reese was snubbed last book giving Firesong and their associates the breathing room they’d need to grow and be 1st year cadets. Something Abel signed off on because it was hampering Rei. Right now she just feels flat. She’s spoke little, disregarded everything the specialist suggested for Viv, Rei and Aria. Ignored Von Bor and Chancery/Logan. Is she pushing for push back? Is she looking to see how far she can get away until Rei snaps himself? If so, it still has me asking why? If she wanted to have Rei tested mentally in such a way allowing Reese’s dismissal was pointless because he’d be the proper tool for it and was doing a hell of a good job. If anything does come out of this choice in Abel’s actions hopefully it makes sense I guess. I do wonder though, when exactly will other schools be informed of the 1st year Systems and beyond tournaments? I’m pretty sure there’s less than or around 3 months until Summer? I just find it odd for this to be happening so late into book 3. With roughly 10 chapters left if Bryce sticks to what he did for book 1 and 2. That leaves Rei’s last one or two parameter tests, announcement for the 1st year’s tournament, Sarah and Rei having their planned one on one. Aria, Logan and Chancery getting their respective upgrades/shards, arguably something new again for Rei? Idk it’s a lot I feel book 3 should have that wouldn’t fit greatly in 10 chapters. Ending book 3 towards us moving into the tournaments is what I’ve been expecting since the end of book 2 so long ago. Now it seems it may be a little into book 4 until we actually hit the tournaments. Thanks for the extra pages nonetheless. See ya next chapter.

2026-01-26 16:32:59 +0000 UTCTo me, she's coming across less as ruthless and more reckless and just kinda... an ass. A 'leader' disregarding the wellbeing of her charges to this extent is ridiculous. This situation in particular is WAY over the line, as a medical officer was on hand and voiced concerns. Legally in the moment she's in a grey area as she can technically override medical 'advice', and they can't disobey her orders. That ends when disregarding the medical advice actually gets people hurt physically or mentally. Maltreatment of subordinates is a crime in the military, and disregarding Medical to this extent is really toeing that line.
