I’d think it was a voodoo witch charging at me the way the new face covering is described- like a sugar skull style almost. I love it - I can totally see witch walker coming about from both the spell and the look of her CAD!

Definitely not needed for the story, just something I was looking forward to. Lennon's initial reaction to joining firesong, seeing temporal step.... Like "Holy Sh** Rei!!!!

I agree with what you are saying and totally get the way you are looking at it, makes perfect sense. The way I always assumed it happened was that the MIND had seen him as the opportunity and assigned that CAD to him specifically for a reason. The MIND did state Rei was being used pretty much as a test dummy lol Whether the MIND knows how the CAD specs will play out or not could be debated, there are pros and cons to both sides of that. The way I looked at it was the MIND knew from the psych portion Rei could likely handle the S rank growth and had the right mentality to use Shido for good not evil. His family being Tech giants and having a lot of pull in that realm it only makes sense they would have some ability to help Rei. Not even in a cheating way, so to say, but in a way like giving him and the team access to the latest and greatest NOED tech. There are so many ways this could all go, but I think Rei and the team being left to grow and work things out on their own as much as possible is likely the best way for the story to go… with a little help from everyone just to open up his full potential along the way.

2025-01-20 05:33:17 +0000 UTCBit of a ramble incoming. TL;DR I think Rei was just the only person who could manifest a device like Shido, not that it was made specifically for him. I also don't like the idea that individual CADs are predesigned, and don't think it fits the story. My thought regarding why Rei got Shido, or rather why he was capable of manifesting Shido, is his Fibro. I always assumed that because of how broken down his body was( and maybe how it was broken), it allowed the CAD to more thoroughly integrate with him on a deeper level. Also CADs, I'm pretty sure, aren't made but manifested. All the beforehand development being to input the initial material, and core components, and some basic structural code or something into something of seed. If yal remember the assignment device, it basically fused a 'seed' of vysetrium into the spine of the user, which then spreads out over the nerves and neural pathways, then manifests into dormant rings on each of their wrists. Everyone seemed to have the same assignment, and even the overseeing officers didn't know beforehand what would come out on the other side. I figure the physical portion of the CAD assignment exam shows the MIND how much of each stat a person's body can handle. I also think most people can't handle a high growth stat. That and most people hardly ever increase their growth rank over their careers ( It was said most only increase it by 1 or 2 levels over their whole careers). The only time we see it happen is right before Viv puts herself into a coma( from severe nerve damage) at the end of book 2. I remember Viv's growth stat was said to be above average and she was assigned D4 or something for growth. For Rei he failed the physical portion, and his assignment stats outside of growth were pretty much all F0, aside from like offense or something. The only reason Rei got past the physical portion is because the MIND saw an opportunity. I figure it's gotta be something physical and unique to Rei that allowed Shido to be what it is. Something that could be seen in that test. Something that allowed the MIND to divert all of the CAD assignment away from stats Rei's body couldn't even handle, to the one stat his body was uniquely receptive to. Also, I really dislike the idea that the Kamiya Corp made a special CAD for Rei at the MIND's request. For one that that would require enough information that the Kamiya Corp should've discovered Rei much earlier. Secondly, I've always felt that CADs are something much more personal. I would really hate it to learn that CADs are all predesigned in a factory or something. Shido is a part of Rei, not some predesigned gear he is slowly unlocking the functions of. Same could be said about everyone else and their CAD. I hope that doesn't come across too bitter, but I just. I really hate the idea of CADs being something so impersonal. Again, I've always prescribed to the idea that CADs are something manifested from the user out of a foundation piece of tech... with some initial guidance by the MIND. Hell even the MIND doesn't know what's going on with Shido anymore. K rant over. bye.

With his influence Im sure he could make something crazy happen!

I think its like 14 dollars a month and one credit a month and includes lots of free books. Never seen a book that was more than one credit so well worth it. Buying credits is a way better choice than buying books on Audible. Best of luck!!

Consider that his family's company was in on the early advancement with CAD technology, so what advantage does his bloodline bring to the table?? Or is this just coincidence?? Ran through book 1 quickly but book 2 is a little over $40, discounted from $55. Doesn't that seem crazy expensive? Has anyone else run into this issue with Audible?

That would just be amazing and it would be interesting to see what wisdom they could bring to the training. Plus, is the communication they are doing similar to what one would do with like a radio or something like that? Except that this is going through their nodes?

Also, as far as we know, she has not arrived at Galens yet - all we know is that the put in for a transfer. Since then I dont think we have heard anything else. Im sure we would have heard if she had arrived....

Seeing chapters evolve and feeling as if you have input really makes the chapters worth it. It just sucks that Bryce seems to get COVID every few weeks.

Sarah would have the same grey eyes as Rei and I'm not sure she'd be the ones with all the third year girls since she herself is a second year. Not sure if she's even at the school yet or if her transfer has finished processing.

My notes have: - Dice: silver-black hair, olive skin (no mention of eye color) - Laquita Martin: Bright red dreadlocks / deep black skin (no eye color) - Kastro Vandeme: silver-blue hair, pale complexion - Anatoli Siderov: his CAD is yellow over silver-grey vysetrium Sarah would have grey eyes, as the Kamiya trait, not silver to my thinking.

Still nutty for the implications of what it's doing as everyone reacting to it points out. Hope we get that Kamiya convo soon which it sounds like we will. I'm curious if this will also be the first time the rest of the team sans Aria is hearing the specific details if he goes into it. Lennon freaking out makes some sense. I guess he's going to continue filling in as she gets back up to speed. His reaction to her evolution could be funny as well. Not sure about the people watching her at the end. The one seems like they could be a third year girl and the only notable one I can think of would be Dice. I think she's a duelist too. The other I feel is Sidorov, but not sure what his deal with her would be when he seemed to more dislike Rei. Granted she's also likely to start taking the spotlight.

Endwalker is nothing like I’d imagined and yet exactly what I’d imagined :o) Putting a spell on the opponent’s device… wonder where Witchwalker comes from :oD Loved speaking with the trio, nice seeing not just Firesong are happy to see Viv back. I mean, she’s a larger than life character, but still nice to see. The conversation with Lennon is going to be interesting! Wonder how deep down the Shido rabbit hole Firesong will let him go. I think the stares are coming from Dice, which makes sense given I suspect she’ll volunteer to help with Viv’s rehab, and Sidorov. Because there’s no way in hell he’s getting the spotlight back… he’s in maybe 8th or 9th place for it right now, and I dare say he’ll slip more once Sarah arrives and/or Dice gets fully into the mix. Excellent chapter! And I hope your dogses is feeling better Bryce.

Since they are bonded and also shido is the reason for the growth and ability... On the other hand shido is supposed to mainly just draw out potential, even tho that is just the working theories so no clue what might be in there connection wise. Anyway fun chapter. Thanks 👍

She's obviously taking attention, resources and training. Wonder what type of suspicions he carries, or if it's simply the fact that everyone has been focused on her for the past month along with being close to Rei that would have him looking on disapprovingly

While I like the Logan arc well enough I want the squad to face real opposition not just hiding from Centrals plans or the nebulous threat of the Archons. I like the good guys winning but they gotta win against something.
