People's Choice #11

NEXT EPISODE'S THEME: Covers. Please comment the original and the cover version. We will react to both and compare.

Hey everyone, the camera cut out super early on this one by accident. The two songs we covered this episode are audio only, but the screen is still there at least.

Artists covered this episode, in order: Crucial Conflict, Soul Position

A lot of African Americans moved from the south to the midwest and they brought along and held onto their southern culture many traditions. This is why you'll find a lot of similarities between the two regions

Luther Vandross is the King of the cover song. His birthday is coming up on April.20. Once he covers a song, it becomes THE definitive version of the song and the original usually fades into the back. Here are a few of his greatest covers with the original artist in parenthesis. Until You Come Back To Me / Superstar (Aretha Frankin/Carpenters) If Only For One Night (Brenda Russell) A House Is Not a Home (Dionne Warwick) So Amazing (Dionne Warwick) If This World Were Mine with Cheryl Lynn (Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell) Love Won't Let Me Wait (Major Harris) Creepin' (Stevie Wonder) Since I Lost My Baby (The Temptations)

Damon K. Stephens

That's a stretch. Detroit is not on Lake Michigan. Detroit is a 3 hour drive from Lake Michigan.

Damon K. Stephens

Another theme suggestion: songs from movie soundtracks. My pick is I’d Die Without You by P.m. Dawn from the Boomerang soundtrack.

I'm glad you guys enjoyed The Cool Thing To Do, it's been a long time favorite of mine. One of the biggest joys for me, is sharing music with others and having them enjoy it as much or even more than I do. Thank you for giving us this platform to do that.

Ruben Reyes

Chicago is near...ish to Detroit. They are on opposite sides of lake Michigan. Black Chicagoans do have a Southern accent because most of them migrated from Mississippi to escape racist psychos during the "Great Migration" I'm from Texas, live in Chicago now and the accents are wild.

ebony alburdy

He Loves Me- by Jill Scott covered by Lianne LaHavas Play Another Slow Jam- by Midnight Star covered by Usher and Monica You're All I Need to Get By- by Marvin Gaye and Tammy Tarrell covered by Method Man and Mary J Blige

Really enjoyed the Soul Position song. Thank you choosing my theme for suggestion next week! Cover Suggestion: Please listen to “As”by Anthony Hamilton and Marsha Ambrosius, originally by Stevie Wonder…OR “Angel” originally by Anita Baker covered by Lala Hathaway. Both artist did the covers justice.

Precious

Great suggestions! Would definitely love to see their reaction to Love’s Train.

Precious

Def Squad - Def Squad Delite (Cover of Rappers Delight by the Sugar Hill Gang and maybe the only "true" cover of a rap song by rappers) Chaka Demus and Pliers - Bam Bam (Cover of Bam Bam by Sister Nancy. Pliers is the only one on this song. Both songs are reggae.)

Alot of Midwesterns have roots in the South. I was born and raised in Wisconsin but my grandparents on my mother's side are from Mississippi, my father's side are from Louisiana...

AuntyPheLaReux

Covers I LOVE ❤️ Ribbon in the Sky original by Stevie Wonder, cover by InTro Who Can I Run To? Original by The Jones Girls, cover by Xscape

AuntyPheLaReux

Yay! Thanks for choosing Crucial Conflict! Omg, loved hearing Dad sing along with the chorus 😆. Bummer that the camera cut out :(. Thanks for posting it anyway though! Suggestion for a cover song: The Eagles - I can’t tell you why (original) Brownstone - I can’t tell you why (cover) Brownstone is an R&B girl group from the 90’s that was signed by Michael Jackson. They had a few hits that are still played and sampled to this day. Of course I’m sure you know who The Eagles are! I love both versions. Both equally great in their own right. Thanks for considering!

Nicole
