UNCUT: Gucci Mane - Chicken Talk Reaction

Although this whole tape is incredible, I thought showing him a handful of my favourite tracks would be more digestible. Not only do I love Gucci but he is so instrumental in establishing trap music, so this was a necessary listen for my dad. This is the full, uncut version, only on Patreon.

Agree with what you've said but also want to point out that Mannie Fresh was definitely a major influence on the whole region as well.

A contemporary of Gucci in a similar vein would be Boosie. Feel like Boosie, Gucci, and Jeezy all were bubbling at the same time. Exposure to Crunk via Lil Jon and/or Ying Yang Twins would make sense. You may even go back to 2 live crew for their influences. Snap music, I think, is the bridge from Crunk to Trap. You could probably do some stuff like memphis revivalism since your Dad has listed to a bit of 3-6. Since you have done, quite a bit of NY rap, it would be interesting to do some Houston rap, particularly a chopped and skrewed song or two, then early ASAP Rocky.

Definitely understand being unsettled by Gucci. Interested in how Kai's dad would react to Drill rap.

That's really cool to know, thanks!

In reference to the album name, Chicken Talk, I think the best all around definition I could ascribe to it would be something like: shooting the shit, often with either a gossipy or boisterous nature. That's how I heard people using it near Baton Rouge, LA throughout my life at least. It could have a nuanced of completely antithetical meaning local to the the Atlanta area, though. I think I've heard Georgia rappers mention clucking in their lyrics as a reference to talking shit or boasting. Oh after listening to the song, in this context it's possibly a double entendre or, more likely, even exclusively talking about the slang term chicken or bird for a kilo of cocaine.
