EXCLUSIVE: Kai's Reaction to Roberta Flack - Killing Me Softly With His Song

Comments

If either you or your dad aren't familiar with Robert Flack's The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face...gotta give it a listen!

Tawanda

Definitely do a Stevie album - Songs in the Key of Life

Tawanda

Oh my goodness, haha! It was alot! I felt like your dad when you played him the interlude before METHOD man on 36 Chambers !! I've avoided listening to to anything by him somehow, not on purpose just never pressed play on anything or heard anything organically. I have to say, I like his tone of rapping reminds me of a mix jadakiss and Andre 3000. The song is very harsh, but then so is 'why can't there be love' (for a love song especially) . So for me the repetitiveness of such a harsh sound was too much for me to ever listen again haha, however at 2.32 a kind of synth sound comes in and lasts all the way to the end, makes it sound like an awesome anime soundtrack, so, if anyone made a song song from those last 40 seconds that would be great. Look, I tried! and my son would be proud that I tried a Tyler the creator song, that's all I can ask for 😄

Awesome! I do not blame you if you do not enjoy the Tyler track haha, it's a lot...

What beautiful memory, very lucky girl. X

Fantastic, well the fact that you know some of those songs explains your good taste in newer era music. And OMG you should definitely do a stevie album reaction. Innervisions is a great one too!. I can't lie to you I dont really listen to new music, but thats what we do here!, so I'm going to listen to the tyler song just for you. X

Ayeisha Perry-Smith

My mom would sing this version to me before bed. Thank you for this one. Because I miss her alot

Hi Ayeisha! Thank you so much for the recommendations. I listen to Footsteps In The Dark all the time - a fantastic, classic track. Also, that Aretha track I also know, great arrangements and wonderful vocal performance! I haven't heard the other tracks. I will leave the Stevie and Heatwave tracks in case my dad might want to show me them for the first time on the channel. However, I did just check out the Dee Edwards, and I am blown away! At the track itself, but also because it is sampled in a song that I used to listen to all the time when I was 15 or so, it's called "Deathcamp" by Tyler The Creator. Check it out! We also might have to do a Stevie album in full on the channel, what do you think?

Kai.. some homework for yous 😃 ... The Isley Brothers, footsteps in the dark... Heatwave, boogie nights...Dee Edwards, why can't there be love....Aretha Franklin, until you come back to me...Stevie wonder golden lady! I might get shot for saying this but Stevie wonder was better musically than Michael Jackson. I only realised this as an adult. But the Stevie albums hotter than July and songs in the key of life are hard proof. Enjoy the delve. X

If you haven't before Kai, have a listen to Earth Wind and Fire 'after the love has gone' ! Also ROBERTA FLACK OF COURSE YOU KNOW HER OTHER SONGS DAD HAHA! First time ever I saw your face(72), back together again(79), I feel like making love(75) gosh so many!!!

Ayeisha Perry-Smith

All my FAVE music is from the 60s and 70s soul, funk, disco, r and b ....without those artists we wouldn't even have rap or hip hop.. you have to listen to more with your dad Kai..!!

Ayeisha Perry-Smith

I love the way in Robertas version her lyrics just flow into each other. There's hardly a break.
