Reacting to Druck Season 3 - Episode 7

Comments

I am from Germany and I think that the song choice of the german songs is spot on! Just like in Heartstopper the lyrics always match the situation. I really like the music 🙂

Wiebke Kempa

Yes, the Netflix subtitles are pretty much 100% spot on as far as translations go as you would expect from a top quality filmmaker. The 'Young Royals' translations were perfect as far as I could make out, but with just the very occasional problem of the subtitles being removed too soon before the viewer had time to finish reading them! But give me a subtitled show any day with the actors speaking in their original language rather than the whole thing dubbed over into English where in that case the whole feel of the show is lost to a certain extent - well for me anyway.

Michael

AHHHH Yess,, I just love your Druck reaction soo much! Love that you love it and enjoy it soo much too. Even if Heartstopper will forever be my fav. show ever, Druck is a close second. Can't wait to see you react to the next episode!

Nicky Van den Bosch

i 100% agree re the subtitles. i don't know if these were created by the series maker, or if they've been created by a viewer afterwards - but it seems like some of the translation doesn't have the desired english outcome. i'm not sure if that's because it can't be directly translated, or if it's because the subtitle maker has english as a second language. it is frustrating, but i'm just glad that there is at least some english subtitles to go from.. rather than none at all. i believe all of the OG skam subtitles were viewer-created too.. which is why sometimes they'll start typing a text message and the whole message translated will appear on the screen at once. i think that's the difference between skam and it's different re-makes as opposed to young royals where the subs are done by netflix for 190+ countries.

this song isn’t either. This moment is sung by Eurydice. I just have an unhealthy obsession with Eva Noblezada (have done since seeing her in Miss Saigon here in London) and love a good scream in falsetto!

Jackie-Ross Lavender

yes! the translations are definitely an issue with Druck! I am a slow reader so I do struggle.

And now I see that the song was from Hadestown, which I actually have a cast album of. I just haven’t listened to it a lot, and that’s clearly not one of the songs I’m more familiar with. If you’d sung “Hey Little Songbird” I’m sure I’d have recognized it (though of course I know it’s not in your range).

I can't wait for the next episode. ❤️

I guess I know about when you were filming this as you were talking about on Twitter (I am just going to keep calling it that…) I am really enjoying watching this with you, I have not seen any of the other versions, but will into them to compare. As to the last scene, I think that a hug can convey so much emotion and love, sometimes even more than a kiss can, I know when I hug my husband all the tension or stress I might be feeling melts away, and you can kind of see that sort of thing here too (also when Nick and Charlie hug, but then I think that could just be that Kit is a great hugger)

Erin

Love the reaction Jackie, but did you feel at times that you wished that they held some of the translations on screen for just a little bit longer to give us time to read them? There were times when I had to pause the picture to give me time to read what they were saying. It happened also on occasions in the og SKAM as well and also to a much lesser extent in 'Young Royals'.

Michael

Wait for Me Reprise from Hadestown!!! Love that show ❤️ I love Druck so much and am glad you are going to watch the rest. There are 8 seasons I believe. Would love if you could react to the Abi Ball / Prom episode and the last episode of Amira’s season. It wraps up the OG series before starting with all new characters for the last 4 seasons

Laurie Barber

I don't know about the rest of you, but I much prefer the music that was chosen for the og SKAM. It just seemed to fit better. The music for this DRUCK version just seems to a bit 'meh' and just doesn't add anything to the feel of this show. That's just my thoughts on it really.

Michael

I think the remakes learned from the response to Skam. They integrate the boys and girls squads better which adds to that feeling that they know each other. I think they also realised that the third season is often viewed on its own so they did away with subtle hints at back story or expecting you to have seen earlier seasons. I love Skam but you make more mistakes when you go first that can then be tidied up or made clearer with hindsight. I really like Druck and I love how excited you are to watch it. Also Hadestown is returning to London in Feb.

Rosie Dickinson

I kinda feel so proud (and also a little relieved, cause I recommended it so many times 🤭) that you like a German tv show so much 🥰 I also love it a lot! I agree, It’s one of the best. And the other seasons are also very much worth a watch! Especially Amira‘s season is one of my favorites.

Frances

Well, you’re certainly doing a good job of that! 😆

Lane Wright

I am purposely choosing more obscure shows at the moment to sing from :p

I promise I am familiar with hundreds of musical theatre songs, but the one at the beginning of these reactions never seem to be ones I know. 🤦🏻‍♂️ I will forever defend the original Skam as the best (I think the depth is there, just presented more subtly), but Druck does a whole lot of things extremely well. The friend group here, which is my favorite friend group of any version I’ve seen, has been a friend group for a while, unlike the friend group in Skam which is of newer vintage. I love the scene at the ping-pong table and the kind of off-the-wall conversations these guys have. Hannah is Jonas‘s ex-girlfriend, like Eva in the OG. I have seen the first two seasons of both Skam and Druck, and they are worth watching; season one is very similar in both, and I think the second season is actually better in Druck. I’ve tried to watch season four of Druck but couldn’t get past the first episode or two, whereas I really like the fourth season of Skam. Even though it is Sana’s season, Isak and Even play important roles in it as well. As for whether the last three episodes follow the same pattern as in Skam, the answer is yes and no.
