Patreon Update - August 20th 2023

Good evening, beautiful people,

Just dropping in with this week's Patreon update!

I hope you've all had a fabulous week. It's been a very eventful one for me, what with Paris and such. But it's also been the most I've struggled with missing Reiss, so I guess you take the good with the bad!

We are continuing to see such exciting growth both here on Patreon and across YouTube and the other socials, and we're fast approaching some very exciting milestones on them all.

I have some exciting news to share, and it will have some explaining to go along with it. The news is that I start a new job tomorrow for a company called WeWork, which headhunted me while I worked at lululemon. It's not a particularly exciting job, but it's a 9-5, and the money is really great.

But, you're probably thinking... what about the freelance work? Well, the past few months have taught me a lot of lessons. When I went full-time all I really knew for certain was that I didn't want to work retail anymore and that I wanted to create. In the past few months, I've really learnt a lot as a creator and the direction I want to be going in and the Thank You, Alice Oseman project solidified that I want to be doing two things:

1. making queer content here on Patreon/YouTube and using my platform to support the LGBT community and, more recently, act as a voice for the Ace/Aro community

2. Create longer form short film/documentary style projects to tell people's stories

What I don't want to be doing:

Creating content for other businesses/people

The reason for this is that the things I have listed above are what I'm most passionate about in the world and shooting content full time has started causing me to burn out creatively. I don't want that to happen. I don't ever want to burn out creatively again as this community is too important to me.

so, i've decided to step away from the other creative endeavours to focus all my energy into growing this YouTube Channel/Patreon and creating fabulous longer form content.

Alas, that's where the 9-5 comes in. Cinema camera gear ain't cheap so ya boy got some saving to do 🤣

Does this make sense? I hope it makes sense. I'm just out here trying to figure out wtf my direction in life is, and for the first time in a while, it feels pretty clear!

So that's my update for this week- its a pretty big one and I hope it makes sense. Feel free to shoot me any questions as I feel like I've rambles a bit here!

Keep an eye on those inboxes... another video coming your way tomorrow ❤️

Love, always ❤️

I'm so happy for you. Use the job for the joy it brings you. Just don't let it ever become your driving focus. Stay true to you. All our heartfelt best wishes Jackie 💕

Jackie, thank you for the update. Congrats on the 9-5 job and the increase in income. So many exciting things coming about in your career. Please pace yourself. I suppose with the 9-5 that will give you freedom to do other creative projects in the evenings. Thanks for all that you do. Sending lots of positive vibes your way towards an excellent first day tomorrow. They’re lucky to have you.

Sounds like you know what you're doing, you know we'll always be behind you 100%. If you feel that doing full time creating was draining you then leaving it behind is absolutely the right choice. Good luck on your first day tmrw but you won't need it, you'll be amazing as always. Xx ❤️

And I was definitely more than surviving in the freelance work. But it was draining my creative batteries and through that I've learnt where my priorities are and that's without a doubt YouTube and Patreon.

Jackie-Ross Lavender

As they say, you gotta do what you gotta do. Being creative is wonderful and we greatly appreciate all the creative things you do here, but we also know you have to eat and pay rent and utilities and stuff like that. You’re working on striking a balance between the two, which is exactly what you should be doing.

Lane Wright

We sure are 🥰

Frances

You've been such a wonderful support, Frances. We're all just out here figuring life out , right?

Jackie-Ross Lavender

Agreed lenses are expensive but so are camera bodies. The cinema camera body I'm looking at investing in is just shy of £5000 which is a huge investment in my career 😀

Jackie-Ross Lavender

The camera itself is cheap. It's the lenses that are expensive as hell. My friend tried to introduce me to photography cameras and lenses and I was like....yeah, no thank you....I could buy another PC+monitor+TV+(either PS5 or Xbox Series X) with that money

Kong Chang

Got not much to say other than I’m very proud and happy for you! 🫶🏽 I love it when I can witness people, including myself, learn from experiences and make the best out of them! ♥️
