Why it’s important to ask for fixes at the right stage

Hello everyone! Wanted to tell you one important thing!

As you know, I don't have a certain number of edits allowed for a work. I prefer to work in a way that makes the customer happy, so I correct the drawing as many times as necessary (of course, the customer shouldn't be impudent either).

But! I do not change anything on the finished work, which has already been approved and which I sent by email to the customer. Of course, there are situations when I made a mistake myself, or I didn’t like how I drew a certain detail, then of course I correct this. But now I'm not talking about these isolated cases.

You can ask why? Why I don’t fix the finished artwork?

It’s simple. At the rendering stage, I specifically adjust the colors and shadows so that the picture looks harmonious. If we change the flat colors after I complete the artwork, the overall color scheme will be lost, the focal point of the gaze will be lost, and so on.

So, the last question - why I am talking about it right now? Today was a situation, that I want to tell you. As an artist. Not aggressive or mad, just facts.

I’ve done the commission, sent it to the customer. Customer said that they like the result. I set about the next artwork with a calm soul. But in a few hours, that customer note me with ask if I can change the colors of some details. Yeah, it’s not hard to change the flat colors, but when we change it after rendering, it can shift the focal point, “stick” several details together into one incomprehensible lump, and sometimes even change the mood of the drawing!

Example:

See, if I just change the flat color, without changing the shadows, effects and rendering:

1 - the focus point, looks harmoniously, the colors go well together

2 - now we have two focus points at the different places, the lower focal point distracts from the upper one, the composition is disrupted

3 - because the dress and background are the same color, this part is mixed up, it is difficult to read

So, for the better result with black dress instead of red, I need to change not only the flat color of it, but also shading, lighting and rendering! This will require more time and effort, and my previous efforts will simply be in vain.

What I wanted to say?

You can always ask me to change some details. It is in my interests to do everything qualitatively, beautifully, so that you yourself like the drawing. But please, ask me about it before I finish the work. Let's respect each other, respect other people's work.

As an artist, I always try to create something beautiful, and I try to do all my best for it.
