Meet the Cast

The dogs from A Lullaby for Gods are based off of a lot of my doggy friends, because I just really love dogs and I like being friends with them even if I just see them around town.
Moxie

Moxie was taken from one of my best childhood friends - who also happens to be a dog of course. I'm convinced that this dog is actually some sort of fae because he's been around since I was a child and he hasn't aged and still as spry as he used to be. I wish I could say that he has no owner and has just wandered around town since time immemorial to further this belief, but he's unfortunately not the elder god I have been wanting to befriend.
This dog's name is Kibol, which means 'no tail' in our local tongue. Of course, his name wasn't originally Kibol. It was...something else, but funnily enough, nobody can remember what it is. But this dog had an owner once. And again, everybody just remembers him as a full-grown dog already, nobody actually remembers him as a pup, so I can't really say if the previous owner raised him from puphood to doghood. He was just already a full-grown dog, with a name nobody can now remember.
(A thing to note, we moved a lot when I was a child, and I moved to my current town when I was nine years old, which was when I met the fully-grown Kibol. It's been ten years. He still looks the same and is still as energetic.)
Anyway, Kibol stayed with his owner until several years ago, when they started treating him cruelly, and even poured hot water on him and cut off his tail. I still remember it when he got hot water poured on him because he ran away from his home to our house and tried to rub on the cold metal fence to get some relief. The neighbors were incredibly concerned for him then, because Kibol's always been such a good dog.
His owner managed to get him back, but after about a week, he ran away again and never came back. He started sleeping under random roofs, whichever one he felt like. A lot of times, he came to ours and stayed nights, and other times, he stayed under other neighbors'. Everyone just understood that he didn't want to go back home, and he didn't want another permanent owner either, and they just...supported it I guess. Everyone took turns in feeding him, and everyone tended to his wounds until he got well.
That was just his lifestyle from then on. Everyone started calling him 'Kibol' because he was missing a tail, and since he was really friendly, nobody hurt him either. (A thing to note, the place I live in is...not very safe. Eating dogs is actually a thing here. But because Kibol had endeared himself to everyone, nobody could find it in themselves to hurt him.) However, if he sensed danger, he was quick to flee or fight. He's a very big survivor.
He still sleeps at our house, three to four times a week maybe. He visits every Sunday to play with my dog.
And like I said, he should be very old? But somehow he's not? And nobody remembers his previous name? I don't know, maybe he is fae.
Fenrir the Golden Retriever

The light of my life, my child, my everything - Marcie (other names include Marceline, Marcelina, Mayang, fluffy ball of lightning). Marcie's small despite her breed because she's not purebred, she's half mongrel. Her mother was a street dog by my father's factory who died of food poisoning. Some rich guy adopted the litter, but after about a week, they threw away Marcie. I don't know. Maybe she was too fearful. Maybe she was too unruly.
Now, like I said before I live in a dangerous area, and I love dogs, I kind of have this agenda of helping strays whenever I can. I don't keep them if I can't keep them. If I can find better homes for them, then I gladly send them to better homes. My dad supports the habit because he loves dogs too.
So when he saw that Marcie was just legitimately being thrown in the trash (no joke, she was being thrown into a trashbin), he dug her out of there and brought her home. Home is two hours away from the factory.
Marcie was very fearful when he first brought her in. She hid under the couch and wouldn't come out, not even when I brought her food. But she ate when no one was looking, and when we all went to sleep, she crept into my room and I woke up with her laying her head on my arm. It was sweet. She responded only to me during the first few weeks. Until now she still runs to me whenever something scares her.
She's a very fearful dog, really, but she's also really playful. After she'd gotten over her initial fear of my family, she loved playing around with us. She also had abandonment issues. Marcie was brought to me when I was just finishing my second year of high school, so during the summer, I spent a lot of time with her. When school came back again, she cried so hard for the first few days. She did the same thing every time dad left for work.
She was also very close with some of the dogs I had under my wing then (they all went to separate homes, bless them). Marcie was always fearful of strangers, so she's just here.
Nowadays she's pretty chill with being left alone, but if you're in the room and you don't pay attention to her, she'll pull on your clothes.
Posie
I'll confess, Posie isn't one of my dogs. She's based off of an acquaintance's, who also loves dogs with all of their heart, and love helping strays. I guess I just appreciated having a kindred soul and decided to make a character based off of one of their beloved dogs.
There's still a lot of dogs in the Safehouse I haven't mentioned yet, but here's the full list.
The Safehouse's initial eleven dogs
1. Rover - Wolfhound
2. Buster - Jack Russell Terrier
3. Moxie - Corgi
4. Posie - Chihuahua
5. Captain - German Shepherd
6. Winston
7. Bingo - Pitt Bull
8. Sugar - Border Collie
9. Appleberry
10. Cerberus - German Shepherd/Corgi mix
11. Milko - Shiba Inu
owned by Bucky Barnes
12. Fenrir - Golden Retriever
I'll admit, I made them twelve in all to represent the twelve aspects. Fight me. Even the dogs have aspects.
1. Rover - SPACE
2. Buster - BREATH
3. Moxie - RAGE
4. Posie - LIFE
5. Captain - HEART
6. Winston - VOID
7. Bingo - HOPE
8. Sugar - LIGHT
9. Appleberry - MIND
10. Cerberus - TIME
11. Milko - BLOOD
12. Fenrir - DOOM
Cerberus
Cerberus hasn't been mentioned yet, and I can't get a photo of him, but he's another dog from my childhood who somehow is still as young and as healthy as before. He really is a German Shepherd/Corgi mix, and he's my neighbor's dog who likes to greet me every time I come home from school. He's not friendly, actually, he's rather aggressive to strangers, but he's always friendly with me, as in he pokes his head through the spaces in their iron fence to lick me. He's sweet. I love him.
Milko
Milko's kind of a sad story. Again, he's not my dog, and I've never actually met him, but I was just kind of hit hard by his story when my cousin told it to me.
My cousin used to work for Milko's owner, and Milko's owner was very, very affectionate with his dog, and sometimes even brought him over to work, so the workers all knew Milko. And since Milko was a very friendly dog, everyone was friends with him too. Milko walked around with his owner in the workplace everyday, and he liked to play with people.
One evening, the owner's security guard forgot to close the gate of their home, and Milko ran out. He went to the road and got ran over by a truck.
Everyone mourned, the owner especially.
Mr. G's new strays
13. Ice - Cream Labrador Retriever
14. Cappucino
15. Vanilla
16. Chagi
17. Frosting
Now, I haven't finished lining up the second set of dogs in the Safehouse, but yes, they're supposed to represent the twelve classes. Unfortunately, since I started with 'Ice', I think I fell into a food naming scheme.
Ice
Ice is a new friend!!! I only met her this May. Her current owner is a family friend. Her original owner died in an accident, and the relatives didn't want to take care of Ice anymore, so they passed her to the late owner's best friend, who was unfortunately set to fly out of the country, so he passed her over to his dad, who is a family friend of ours. I met Ice when we went over to his place for his birthday, and she looked incredibly lonely.
So I sort of went over to her and petted her gently and just hummed, because I was a little distressed over her, and her current owner saw us and went, '...you know, she's normally very aggressive with strangers.' And yeah, when someone else came to her, she just flipped out.
She's still kinda lonely sometimes - I think she's not over her first owner's death - so I try to visit her. Hopefully she's gonna be alright with her new dog friends now. :)
