Cute Little Thing

She held Zoe's hand, her eyes a turbulent sea of fear and determination. The rhythmic sound of crutches clicking against the concrete floor signaled Kai's arrival. Middle-aged, his skin a canvas of intricate tattoos, and gracefully maneuvering on a pair of sleek crutches, Kai was an awe-inspiring sight that personified transformation and resilience.
As Kai initiated the procedure, Zoe turned to Alex, her voice a soothing balm - soft but steady. "Alright, Alex, Kai is cleaning your arm, preparing it," she began, narrating each step with meticulous precision. "He's made the initial incision. It's like the stroke of an artist's brush, very precise and clean. Don't worry, Alex. He's taking immense care."
Alex's nervous laughter rang out, reverberating through the room as she attempted to diffuse the tension, "I guess arm-wrestling is off the table now, huh?"
Zoe chuckled, giving her hand a comforting squeeze. "Well, on the bright side, you'll never have to worry about washing dishes again!"
As Kai continued his work, skillfully and carefully cutting through the muscle, Zoe provided her comprehensive commentary. "He's working through the muscle now, like a sculptor chipping away at marble. There's not much blood, Alex. Everything is controlled, precise, almost an art form."
Zoe held on to Alex’s hand while it was being removed. Like a foot falling asleep, Alex gradually lost all sensation as the nerves were severed. After a few seconds, her forearm was completely detached and hung limply from Zoe’s grasp.
Zoe, held up the now detached hand, held it up to Alex with a joking twinkle in her eye. She reaches down toward her purse on the floor and says, “Hey Alex, can you give me a hand here? - Oh! Thanks!” she says, holding up Alex’s lifeless hand.”
The operation advanced with Zoe's detailed descriptions and tasteless commentary serving as the soundtrack. "Next up, stitching the skin. Kai's hands are expert. You have nothing to worry about.”
"Well," Alex said with a grin, her courage shining through despite the circumstances, "Guess I won't be able to wear bracelets anymore. But think of the money we'll save on gloves this winter, Zoe!"
Zoe laughed, her heart swelling with admiration for Alex's indomitable spirit. "And think of all the fun we'll have while shopping for shoes! Half the work."
As Kai transitioned to the legs, removing them well above the knees, Zoe continued her intricate narration. "He's repeating the process, Alex. Cutting through the skin…then on to the muscle. The sound of the procedure was rhythmic, almost like a heartbeat, steady and continuous. Now, he's sewing the skin back together. It's the same careful, meticulous process."
Alex's laughter echoed again, her spirit undeterred. "At least I won't have to worry about tripping over my own feet anymore!"
Zoe joined in, her laughter a testament to their bond, filling the room. "And you'll never have to complain about your feet hurting in heels, love!"
"Aw, look at you! You're like my own little human puppy!" Zoe cooed, amusement dancing in her eyes.
"Zoe, really?" Alex responded, her cheeks burning a bright crimson. She wasn't sure whether to be mortified or entertained. A low chuckle emanated from Kai, his own tattooed face breaking into a wide grin at the exchange. As he hopped adeptly on his sole leg to tidy up the post-procedure mess, Zoe stepped outside to grab the wheelchair they had smartly prepared themselves with for today’s activities.
