Quick Poll on Random Follower Barks!
Added 2023-06-15 06:45:49 +0000 UTCHey guys! Quick question on random follower barks 🐶Basically, they're dialogue lines (either from hellos or idles) that typically happen while you're exploring the world, and aren't part of a scripted event. This also extends to NPC and follower banter.
Do you prefer that the barks happen immediately at once (no cooldown but you never hear the dialogue again), or do you prefer hearing the dialogue multiple times (it might take a longer time to proc but you get to hear it more often)?
The pros of the first is that the follower seems more reactive to the world (instant dialogue) but once the dialogue happens the follower becomes silent (not reactive). The latter can have the follower be less reactive at times, but they don't become a mute since they always have a line of dialogue for something. However with repeating dialogue it can get annoying after a while.
Thanks folks! This will help me adjust how I do Serana, Ashe, and future follower barks down the line.

Glad the majority see it the way I do (sorry i'm late to the party lol). This is something I notice whenever I start a new playthrough. The first time u walk into a Hold all the citizens interact with one another to start quests but if you were in the middle of going somewhere you may miss it. I always felt that if the player doesn't actually try to move that quest forward it should eventually come back. Or just don't have them all start right away and spread them out.

2023-06-15 21:07:50 +0000 UTCFor some lines/mistakes, it makes sense to happen once ("Bar keep, I'd like a wench."). But it would be great to tease Serana once in a while about those awkward moments :)

2023-06-15 12:37:24 +0000 UTCPersonally I think a mix would be good, a couple one time comments, perhaps tied to specific spots (i.e. ambushed caravan) and (more) repeating more generic lines.

2023-06-15 11:41:06 +0000 UTCI confess I do not understand what you mean by "barks". Personally I prefer a follower to have something to say all the time, though repeating the same line gets tedious. Vilja is very good at producing a range of semi-random comments, like "Who put that there?" that cycle round enough so repeats are reduced. These lines can be surprisingly fitting (or sometimes very funny if it hits a game event like a dead bandit on the road). I suppose it depends on the character: people in real life have favourite lines and reactions that they use in situations. There's no reason not to have the same for Serana and Ashe. Whatever, I'm sure you'll make a great choice!
