A Little Ashe Voice Sneak Peek!

Hey folks! Here's a little taste of Ashe's new voice - well, two of them actually!

From our first showcase (and the playable 0.1 build on Patreon currently) Kerstyn and I decided to redo Ashe's accent.

With her last iteration, it was hard for Kerstyn to act or express emotion - during one of our past recording sessions she told me she was literally as stiff as a board.

That's why I decided to instruct Kerstyn to pour a little more emotion into her voice, still having that coldness from before - but with a greater range.

After all, Ashe is a cold-blooded badass, but she does have a lot of moments where she is emotional as well (think 2B from Nier Automata!).

We tested two accents, one British accent (Kerstyn can actually do pretty good British voices) and one American accent (one like the old one, just more expressive).

We've considered both as while Kerstyn's American accent is really good (I mean, she is from America) considering she is going to talk with Serana soon - and either or both of those characters are going to be talking with Umbra - I don't want you guys to notice Kerstyn is voicing all of them hahaha. Hence us going with something more different and distinct for Ashe.

Of course, I have the final say, but I would like your thoughts on British Ashe vs American Ashe!

I agree with the 2 above - If possible would love some sarcasm from her as over here in the UK we are a very sarcastic bunch.

Definitely British. In addition to what others have said on maintaining a distinction, the British cadence is a little lower in tone, and gives her a more "menacing" vibe than the American accent. Perfect for the mercenary background.

I'd go with the British accent in order to maintain that distinction between the characters you mentioned. The American Ashe voice doesn't sound like Serana, is obviously a distinct character, but I'm hearing it on good speakers and I'm long-term familiar. Someone new to your work listening on a laptop might have a different experience πŸ˜‰

First one sounds great to me, doesn't sound like Serana or Morgaine to me lol XD

Great idea, Jason! (psssst, I hope to never miss a Summer Glau reference... I still mourn "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles" and "Firefly" being canceled waaaay too soon). sigh. Sorry to fall off topic!

Allie-Wan

I love Morgaine...oh wait...Doh!

Jimanimbo

My vote is with the first british voice

Zeroth

Personally, I really like the first voice with the british accent, but both voices sound really good.

Lore

Big fan of the first one.

Darththorn

I think I'm leaning towards the second one, but I do like the decision to give her a little more emotion either way!

Can you link a sample clip, on Youtube perhaps?

Martimius

I'd almost go towards a mix, with just an edge closer to the American. , but with the kind of haughty distance of the British. Kind of like Summer Glau on "Firefly," if anyone gets the reference.
