Opinion on an Ashe Feature?

*Image of Nier Automata's 2B getting drunk on motor oil, which is what I do not want for Ashe, (at least for now maybe 🤣)*

What do you guys think of this feature I'll talk about below? Any ways to improve it as well? For Ashe, I'm thinking of adding something called "Combat Training".

In short, this is what it entails.
____________________________________________________________________

The player and Ashe spar. Condition (and Ashe needs   to say this) needs to be outside any towns, or inside a player home. Either actual combat or a fade to black with sfx.

Then, she makes a small comment on the player's   combat (if she beat them, the player beat her, etc...)

Then, she says some radiant conversation topics after at random. These will be different from "What's On Your Mind"   topics, though they may cover similar areas like quest commentary, her mental state, hobbies, etc…

This will be Ashe's equivalent of Drinking Buddies,   a radiant bonding activity to spend time with the character and get to know them more in the process.

Since Ashe is not a big talker, the conversations here are naturally shorter than the SDA equivalent.
_____________________________________________________________________

I did not want a simple port of Drinking Buddies to Ashe, as while I realize it is a good and popular feature, it makes absolutely no sense for the Ashe character as of now. As I see it, Combat Training makes sense vs. Drinking Buddies because Ashe is enthusiastic about combat while she detests drinking of any kind, and is not much of a party/sociable person.

In case you need a refresher on who Ashe is (it's been a while since I announced a development build or released anything about her) - https://docs.google.com/document/d/17CQljv_8ERsv8s4UHFoOLALE_hB9ElC3lJx6iIkMx8o/edit?usp=sharing

Good news also is that while Ashe development has been almost non-existent until this point, I'm going to be prioritizing it (hence the SDA Interim Update with custom names and maybe some small dialogue stuff)! For as much I can accomplish, I'm trying to get 0.2, 0.3, and 0.4 together in one release. 0.5 or 0.6 is when it will be release ready, and will contain the prologue of her character quest along will full functionality!

(also P.S. custom name requests for SDA are still open! fire away!)

Opinion on an Ashe Feature?

Comments

Yep hahaha it's one of my favorite fan arts of her actually

Martimius

I think it's a good idea as is, it's already a good way of changing the drinking buddies formula and personalizing it for Ashe. Also, love that 2B picture lol.

Joe Buk

Thank you for the feedback! I'll think about it.

Martimius

I've never thought about that honestly. It's a good idea!

Martimius

I'd prefer that too, but Skyrim AI is seriously holding me back on pushing through with it fully. I want people to have a good experience, not a buggy one.

Martimius

I think this is an excellent idea and a way to add some character depth without breaking character. If she doesn't talk much it would not make sense to have dialogue to advance this stage. If you can integrate some kind of brawl mechanic using different weapons, that would be really cool.

With Ashe having (for lack of a better way to put it) "Dwemer DNA", will she have abilities similar to the Spider Control Rod or have other unique ways to interact with automatons in Dwemer ruins?

Allie-Wan

This is amazing. I'm so hyped for Ashe! The sparring feature sounds fantastic, I think the Actual Combat instead of Fade to black would be amazing cause there could be some banter, or dialogue depending on the outcome of the training.

depends if I do a fade to black or if its actual combat. thanks for the suggestions though

Martimius

that's great!

Zeroth

First thing that came to mind was the clash Nero and Vergil have in DMC5 - if that (or similar) would be the SFX version, I'd lose my mind! Aside from that, would there be banter during the spar itself, or more of a critique of the player, if any dialogue happens during?

chronostorm

nah not really bro. if you are in the minority it isn't a small one by any chance. I get a lot of requests on Ashe updates hahahah. People won't shut up about her (this is a good thing).

Martimius

I love that you are giving more priority to Ashe! I may be in the minority but im actually more excited for her than SDA

Zeroth

I'm already thinking of referencing Pelinal! I think I do it in one of the Version 0.3 conversations I wrote, but I'm not sure.

Martimius

In terms of difficulty, not sure. Depends whether I make the feature fade to black or actual combat.

Martimius

Ah, never thought of that. First choice really wasn't a fade to black but I gotta think of the Skyrim jank. We already get enough of that in Drinking Buddies sometimes (like asking Serana to find a table).

Martimius

Thank you for the feedback! I will keep this in mind. In terms of martial style is this for the training session or just combat in general?

Martimius

I like the combat training idea. On an unrelated note, I don't know what tone you're going for but if you wanted to make the backstory a bit more immersive or lore friendly instead of referencing Fallout, you could reference KINMUNE or Pelinal. Both are supposedly androids sent back in time from future eras. It could also make sense to have the AI technology based off of Sotha Sil's work in the Clockwork City and have the body made from Chaotic Creatia. Also, a tome of infinite future knowledge sounds like it would come from Jyggalag's library more than Hermaeus Mora's.

Robert makes a great point. My first choice wouldn't be a "fade to black" mode but the odds are good some random NPC will walk by, get whacked and you have a bounty or an angry beast spawns in and interrupts the convo/spar.

Allie-Wan

Yeah it makes sense, I just wonder how it will go, difficulty wise as you, the character raise in level. Since you have the 2B picture up, I believe, there was a combat mod that modeled after 2B I downloaded back in the day, while cool, the 2B follower I had was so overpowered, lol, I never took her. Not saying that would happen here, I’m all for overpowered characters now, since I mod my game with high level difficulty mods. Thought, if I remember correctly, we meet her in a tavern, just can’t see her being in one waiting. Would it be better, meeting her, say Dragonsreach, offering her services, or even warning the Jarl of an impending storm cloak attack? I feel that would flow better.

HUP06

It’s a good idea, but I would strongly prefer the fade to black mode. In a “real” combat, there are too many chances for Skyrim’s AI to do some thing silly. Another follower could get involved, a pet could get involved, another mod could kick in, the AI could just bug out. we end up laughing to cast spells or reload to fix whatever went wrong. Fades to black avoids that. You get fun combat noises, and maybe you can decide who wins based on weapon skills. Afterwards, ifAshe wins, she can tell you you put on a good show and give hints for next time. If you win, she can point out places where she took it easy on you and warn you that she will not be so easy to beat next time. Just some thoughts based on things that have gone wrong using the sparring feature in NFF.

Robert Dorf

Works for me, too! After the sparring, some kind of feedback or review of the session by Ashe and Dragonborn would make sense. (A lot of sparring mods are just that: bash and crack - and then behave as if nothing happened). Ashe might offer some variable lines on Dragonborn's hit rate, strength (or lack of it!), weapon techniques, etc. And she should ask for feedback. Also, Ashe and Dragonborn may need to re-establish / reassure their relationship after a good thumping!? And if Ashe is more combat orientated, an awareness of weapons and weapon advantages/disadvantages would be cool. Will Ashe have a "martial style"? I watch some Chinese Wuxia TV series. In the curent one, the heroine is known as the Successor to the "Blade of the South" and has a martial arts 'style'. I could imagine Ashe being (plucking a thought out of the air) "Snow Blade of Dawnstar" or whatever. Just a idea.
