Girl Genius Comic for Monday, January 02, 2023

Well, here we are in the New Year, and I hope it's a good one for everyone! I'm very tired after all the holiday work, and when I've posted the page I'm going to take a much-needed nap. Or watch Reanimator. I haven't decided which.

Last night we played Wingspan with our friends, a board game about birds. As with everything reality based, I think it needs more dragons, but I still had a lovely time seeing our out-of-town friends. I'm not very good at keeping track of things during board games: is it my turn, what mechanic should I be watching out for and how does it work, that sort of thing, let along strategy, so I always wind up feeling terribly stupid. I'm not even sure playing more would help, every game has different things to keep track of, and the people I usually find myself playing games with are very clever, so I might just wind up the table fool every time no matter how much I play. Yay!

Anyhow, I'll be back with the colors as soon as I've got them. Happy New Year!

Playing cooperatively might be the thing for you. In the days between we played a lot of Paleo, were the players win or lose together. So before you do a thing, there is always a discussion what will be best for the group. No dragons in Paleo as well but Mammoths, Dodos.

Cheyenne is indeed a wizard colorist and a very busy one at that! (As well as being great as part of a set including Phil and Kaja!)

William Ansley

I'm tired and now I'm imagining the eels in the background of the last panel singing the song from the old "space is fun!" animation: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cf8X_Ep0V9A

Michael Bacon

Ah. Live and learn. Thanks. Still, Cheyenne is a wizard colorist. Well, hell, they're all (Kaja, Phil, Cheyenne) great!

Agreed, but the question was whether the jagged word balloon at center right here indicated caffeine withdrawal or spark mode - https://www.patreon.com/posts/girl-genius-for-75983032

I don't think everyone who drinks coffee is necessarily a spark, nor are those who don't necessarily not sparks. That having been said, I would expect that most people in Mechanicsburg probably study some mechanics on school - at least enough to find out if they're at all sparky.

Some Ed

Good catch! I wasn't seeing caffeine withdrawal as triggering Spark Mode.

Elka Tovah Davidoff

She also went into fugue a few pages ago back when there wasn't any coffee, if I remember correctly. It just didn't last long because she got coffee beans off Hector.

Le'letha

Didn't you used to do game art, Kaja (he asked rhetorically)?

Carl Fink

Actually, Kaja does all of the lettering, including lettering and coloring the sound effects, which is why the POFs are already colored.

William Ansley

Aha! Lumi is talking in Spark Mode! Apparently the Von Mekkans aren't only administrators...

Elka Tovah Davidoff

Why do I suspect Lumi got top marks just to get her and her flamethrower out of the kitchen? "needs more dragons". (happy sigh) I knew I was in the right place with the right creators.

Le'letha

I played board games with some friends over Christmas. Learning the mechanics was fun but I wasn't able to keep track of anything not in front of me. So I was kind of the table fool too. That's ok it was still fun.

Alan

The flaming dessert reminds me of the Pinky and the Brain episode in which they enroll in a class on how to prepare crêpes Suzette, and the Brain has figured out that adding cinnamon will make the crêpes explode. :)

Brian Harvey

The 'POFs' are already colored. Cheyenne is bizzy.
