Art in Progress

Hello there

Today, I am returning to some drawing, after a weirdly long time since doing any. It might have been over a month you know.

I started this on Monday, as a tonic to a rather dreary lonesome birthday, at high risk.  I genuinely thought I was in such a maudlin mood (I know, boring) that if I messed this up it would properly knock me.  Which makes it even stupider that I selected a full page composition piece to get back on the horse, with so many faces to potentially mess up. 

I shan't hang that over you though, thus far it's all ok. We don't need that uncertainty chucking into this.

As it is one of those full pagers, it was never going to be completed in one sitting, so this is an in-progress one. We end this post with two of the seven characters completed (including the largest one). 

I think this is rather interesting insofar as it is a slow burn on the drawing front.  So you shall see that a great deal of the early pictures look like nonsense collections of dots, it is only when the black block work goes in that you'll see what was going on.  Which is both fun and nerve-wracking as there's always the worry that you'll fill in the black and realise you've missed by a mile.

I think they've worked here, but you may disagree.  In fact, for today, I'm not even going to say what this is from, just to see if it is recognisable.  I'm not assuming everyone has seen this film...but if you've not, you are a fool to yourself. Please do.  It's wonderful.

It's very rare that I'll use another tool when drawing, but I needed those straight lines done bang on, especially as the composition isn't just a straightforward box...

This is what I meant by it being just a load of indecipherable shapes and dots...we're getting there though...

Here we go, let's get the 1.0 ink on the go now...

One down, over to the next character, which is working in a much tinier area...

Yeah, nothing upsetting about those isolated teeth eh?  Let's get the black blocking on the go quick...

I was genuinely all ready to black those teeth out completely, as it will still work without them, but for now I think they're ok in the full composition.

We close play today at this stage, which I think is an alright start.  I'm not entirely sold on the composition itself, but am hopeful that when it's all done in ink it'll work out...

Still so many chances to mess this up... confidence is higher than it was though for now.
