Build-a-Character (Part 2)
Added 2024-03-20 16:00:21 +0000 UTCSo, it looks like Sci-Fantasy takes it! (Somehow it feels like the Emperor of Mankind may have stepped on the scale, a bit)
So the next question is: Which side of the war is our character fighting for!?

LORE TIME
In sitting down to write a little blurb about how Averess’ society went from an idyllic utopia to a galaxy spanning civil war, I started diving so deep into the nuances that defined what a utopia is or even could be without smoothing out the texture of civilization so much that it is more of a dystopia, that I was basically just starting to write a novel.
And that is not why we are here.
It doesn’t really matter that much for our purposes here, any way. Suffice it to say the Unity of Averess was pretty bomb, no matter who you were. But it all balanced on the head of a pin. So invested was it in the pure fidelity of its citizens that it had no defense against the evil that grew from within. The Xtaziat.
And when that evil moved against its own society, it completely shattered. What Averess is now is the startled reaction of a people woken from a dream. The new reality so distant from what it knew it had to rebuild its society from the ground up. A society in the grips of all-out war.
The nine High Scholars that once commanded peace and prosperity across the empire reduced to one. An act of vile destruction so horrific it cut the population of the entire galaxy to a third in an instant. And for that the dark magics of the Void rewarded its perpetrators nearly god-like powers. The Prime Three of the Xtazi.
And from the ashes of cataclysm, the Revenant of Averess scavenged the resources of its shattered civilization and set itself to fighting back the great evil it had unleashed upon the galaxy.

So! Is our character:
Option 1: Revenant
The remains of a once idyllic utopia. Scavenging its unknowable magics and technology to fight against evil and protect the defenseless. Technology and tactical combat powered by magic. Honorable, principled, and militaristic. (Aesthetic: Tacti-cool cyber-fantasy. Strong mecha-military vibes mixed with beautiful medieval fantasy.)
TECH/magic
Option 2: Xtazi
(ex-TAH-Zi) The wretched empire born from the dark powers of the Prime Three. Seeking to consume and conquer in the pursuit of dark power. Dark magic enhanced with tech. Cut-throat hierarchy, deviously clever, lascivious and cult-like. (Aesthetic: Very showy modern fantasy with flairs of technology. Dark, sinister and extravagant. Beautiful and deadly. But not afraid to sacrifice that beauty for twisted power.)
MAGIC/tech
