What keeps you from recommending Ennui GO!?
Added 2024-07-30 18:49:09 +0000 UTCYou are all here because (presumably) there is something you like about Ennui GO! or my work in general, even if it's just the wellspring of boobies. What is the biggest hurdle to you in recommending the comic to a friend?
I have long had a mixed relationship with the NSFW stuff that's in the comic. On the one hand it served as a tremendous springboard into getting Ennui GO! profitable quickly. On the other hand, it seems to have over time become a detriment that makes the comic difficult to recommend to others.
To that end, I'm considering putting up a separate Ennui GO! archive that would have the porn bits cut out. If absolutely necessary for plot reasons, those strips might be re-drawn or cut up in some way. The main Ennui GO! comic pages would remain unchanged, this would just be a separate page that could be used to recommend to people without the awkwardness of having pendulous, throbbing beef truncheons dragged across the faces of your poor, unsuspecting friends.
What do you think? This would be a bit of an undertaking, and there are several angles to consider, so I want to hear opinions on the matter, or any potential angles or viewpoints I haven't considered.
Please, let me know your thoughts in the comments.

Tbh the adult situations in the comic was one of the big draws to me. Not necessarily because it was porn, I only manage to be able to throw you the $10 every few months to get caught up on the uncensored stuff. But I just really liked the sex jokes and the fact that your comic was bold enough to feature non-romantic explicitly sexual relationships. I dont read Ennui Go anymore, partly because its not NSFW anymore and partly because I just don't really care for high school dramadies On the other hand I recommend Black Hole to literally every adult comic reader I meet. I think the premise is excellent and almost every chapter is an extremely interesting exploration there of. Not only that but the little bits of connective plot like the cost of Diana using her powers is *chefs kiss* excellent.

2024-09-05 22:36:03 +0000 UTCI've recommended the comic to one of my best friends and he's now also really into it. I've not recommended it to many other people though because I only recently realized that part 2 has gotten long enough to read on its own, and it's probably pretty hard to hook people with the beginning of part 1

2024-07-31 07:03:16 +0000 UTCI've recommended the comic to people. People who read webcomics and are ok with adult situations, content, and jokes. There is nothing keeping me from recommending it to people as-is. If you cut out the smut and adult stuff from the old comics, I feel it would lose a considerable amount of it's character and unique charm. For me, sex was always one part of the story, because of who the characters are and what kind of life they live. To draw a comparison: We could also cut the X-rated stuff out of Sunstone, and it would still be the banger of a comic it is because it's well written. But it would lose part of what makes the story. In both your comic and Sunstone, sex is part of the story, and to lose that would lessen it.

2024-07-31 04:52:28 +0000 UTCI recommend it to people just based on the storyline, and just warn them it's an adult comic.

2024-07-31 03:09:29 +0000 UTCYour story is identical to mine almost down to the last detail. That's kind of nutty, lol. ... AND I just noticed we're both Kevin, lol

2024-07-31 01:19:35 +0000 UTCI've recommended it everywhere I frequent. That's been a good while ago, though. So maybe all your readers are people who have been here for a long while, and the young people reading it from the start bump into the 2014 SJW politics riffing and get turned off.

2024-07-30 23:27:28 +0000 UTCPorn was part of the reason for me, but also just none of my friends really read comics

2024-07-30 20:51:01 +0000 UTCI originally got into Ennui go through the porn. I was searching up porn comics and was shown your previous website that hosted the comic. I have been recommending the series to people I know even with all the porn. I've even loaned my physical copies to friends. I have liked every part of the series with or without smut, but the porn was how I first found the series and i would assume that other people have as well.

2024-07-30 20:47:00 +0000 UTCI feel that.

2024-07-30 20:15:47 +0000 UTCThe mastery and consideration of the angles is what makes the NSFW so awesome. That being said I was drawn in by the story never by the porn

2024-07-30 20:09:54 +0000 UTCI enjoy series that are a mix of genres, and there is plenty in the series. I guess the comic just feels like an acquired taste: you are not quite sure who to recommend it to. Comic itself is great, I am just not sure how to bring it up with my social circle.

2024-07-30 20:06:12 +0000 UTCI hardly recommend it because most of the circles I move in aren't ones for webcomics, and who ever is into webcomics is fixated on webtoons and the like. I respect the decision to redo prior works in a more sfw manner, but if you're doing that are you going to redo all of the other strips and comics making fun of something that you wanted to make fun of that year? Redo the sex scenes for broader appeal currently but let the other strips that pretty much carbon date what was going through your mind at that week remain as is? If advertising this is a concern of yours, the only thing that comes to mind is subjecting yourself to Twitter and maybe 4chan threads. Tumblr's discoverability is still in the shitter so i cannot reccomend that

2024-07-30 20:03:02 +0000 UTCI think it would be a good idea, just to make part 1 more consistent in tone with part 2. I think it would also expand your consumer base for those not interested in those elements and are alinated by them, It’s always a bit controversial when an artist redoes an older work such as with Tolkien and Lucas, but I respect their right and decision to do so.

2024-07-30 19:44:08 +0000 UTCHonestly? I do recommend it whoever I can. Mostly to randos on the internet, but as much as I can. I might preface it with "if you don't like sex jokes, don't read it", but otherwise most people on the internet, at least the sections I tend to hang out in, aren't bothered by some pixilated nudity or buckets of whale jizz.

Scott Sinclair
2024-07-30 19:42:14 +0000 UTCI've recommended it several times to friends but each time they've ask why Izzy's boobs are so big like it wasn't obvious. "Doc like the big boob so he draw big boob"
Scott Sinclair
2024-07-30 19:41:37 +0000 UTCI dunno, boobies are nice. And even when ennui was heavily NSFW, i didnt feel it was porn for the sake of porn, more for jokes and plot/characters.
Karsent
2024-07-30 19:23:49 +0000 UTCNothing, I recommend it all the time but I preface it with "there's porny bits early on but it drops off and they're censored anyway". I can now also recommend RSF too as it's fully relevant to EG.
Atticus Grim
2024-07-30 19:07:57 +0000 UTCI think having a sfw version is a good idea. The overall story isn't that appropriate for younger ones but not having explicit material throughout means more can read it without worry.

2024-07-30 19:02:25 +0000 UTCI might be an outlier here but I've never been stopped from recommending it just for the NSFW. The worst part about the full on sex scenes is just trying to read past the sea of mosaics. On a personal level, I think you shouldn't try redoing pages to make them SFW. There's no shame in porn and you shouldn't feel bad about it.

2024-07-30 19:02:21 +0000 UTCI personally dont find that as a problem, honestly the biggest thing that stops me from talking more about EnnuiGO is i dont wanna spoil things for other people and i get excited talking about things like it. The other thing is no advertising in discords, so if i wanna recommend it its gotta come from the heart and i cant just ramble about it just anywhere.
