Most Wanted #7 - Submit Your Ideas!

We have got a brand new round of 'Most Wanted' for you!

This time around we thought we'd delve back into fictional characters and seeing as we probably all wish we were far from home right now....

... it's spidey time! Love him or loath him Spider-Man is a huge comic book name and he's also someone who's got a lot of potential opponents out there.

So, we want to know who you'd like to see him face if we decide to pop him in an ERB.

You can post your ideas for opponents in the comments below, or post & discuss them in the '#matchup-ideas' channel on the Discord or email them to: erbpatreon@gmail.com

Deadline for your ideas is 5pm PT on Thursday September 10th

Pete & Lloyd will discuss all the submissions and select their favorite five ideas. Early next week we will create two polls (one on Patreon and one on YouTube) and see what the wider fan-base thinks about those five choices.

REWIND TIME: In the last round of "Most Wanted" we asked you to vote on potential opponents for Sitting Bull. On both the Patreon and YouTube it was a landslide victory for Malcolm X. With Moctezuma II stumbling home in second place on both polls. Malcolm X has always been someone who's we've discussed at times over the years. He's a the kind of strong, dynamic personality that would probably fit well into an ERB. So, Sitting Bull vs Malcolm X is now certainly on our radar for the future.

But - now let's get our spider senses tingling about this new most wanted!

There's a few unorthodox ones I can think of based on key events from the character's history. Spider-Man vs. Faust. Peter frequently fights people who put their own knowledge over the common good (Doc Ock, Osborn, The Jackal, any other evil scientist he ever faced). Both made deals with "Satan" for their own self gain, In later stories Faust is saved from Hell but wasn't in early ones. They both have dead girlfriends (Gwen Stacy, Gretchen). Spider-Man vs. Shazam, one is the story of a kid who has to grow up due to his powers and have responsibility thanks to some famous words, the other is a kid saddled with the responsibility of becoming and adult thanks to a magic word, and instantly has the wisdom in how to use the powers given to him. One is more of a tragic tale, while the other is (at least in my eyes) more of a wish-fulfillment character than even Superman since you don't have to grow up to get to do all the cool stuff. You guys unfortunately already did Voltaire, who originated the "great power" phrase to begin with, so my third suggestion is Ayn Rand. Peter's always been devoted to the "with great power is great responsibility" while Ayn Rand's philosophy appears to be "I will only live to serve myself and will not stop anyone else from living to serve themselves." To Ayn Rand, Peter's sense of responsibility to always have to save people would be considered "evil" since he is not acting in his own self-interest due to what he views as the ethics of society.

Erik Bell

Spider-Man vs Alex Jones! Alex Jones is basically the real life inspiration for the modern J. Jonah Jameson. An icon of sensationalist media, speculation, and conspiracy theory. (And an all around epic meme!) There’s definitely something there about how he weaponizes the World Wide WEB to his advantage. 😉 His words are as reality-bending as Mysterio, and he’ll always find some way to twist and discredit Spidey’s lines. One thing is for certain... No matter what version of Spidey we’re talking about, older even than Green Goblin or Doc-Oc, the poor guy’s most consistent enemy has always been Fake News. I think this is a battle America needs right now! 😆

Alvin Franco

I wanted to suggest Tarzan myself, but since you already did, I shall vote you up! Spider man v Tarzan of the Apes! They both have a LOT of lore to draw from! Many variations, retellings, and modernizations.

Alvin Franco

Oooh! Also, both have been portrayed by people of color! There’s actually a lot to be said about both, in terms of representation, and questionable portrayals of history/origins! 🤔

Also Slenderman could be an interesting match sharing the hobby of walking on walls with Spidey.

Daniel AF

What about Arachne, the mother of spiders in Greek mythology

Daniel AF

Tin Tin; for our pals in europe.

Joseph Fortwengler

Very weird matchup, but Raymond Belle? Frenchman firefighter who is credited as the creator of parkour PARKOUR!, even though he's obscure as hell. He was quite the hero himself, saving people from burning buildings by scaling them without ladders, safety ropes, etc. That would be a cool parallel to the first Tobey Maguire Spider-Man film and its fire sequence.

Michael Rhindress

Raven

Spiderman vs Cthulu

John Griffith

I’ve always liked Spider-Man vs Kick-Ass, but I don’t think Kick-Ass is necessarily battle worthy. I think Spidey vs someone non-fictional would be best. Fictional vs Non-Fictional match-ups are my favorite
