Ryan will never lose an opportunity to make a joke, at any cost. 🤣 For the record, I think I’m with the majority of the beyhive that recognizes intention, and it’s clear that you guys aren’t intentionally trying to be racist or hurtful. It’s clear how you guys tip toe around certain words, or references. I find you guys considerate and mostly self-aware. The great thing about this community, as you guys mentioned, is that you guys now have an ability to learn about cultures and experiences different from your own. Yes, people will get upset over the most trivial things, but I highly encourage you to still be receptive as there is always something to learn. I think it’s appropriate that this came up now because self-titled is when Beyonce started to become more political, and with it, reception to her became more polarizing; and ever increasingly so with each subsequent release leading up to today’s Cowboy Carter. The album 4 is Beyonce becoming independent. Self-titled is her embracing all aspects of herself and coming into her own, giving us a glimpse into her world. And with Lemonade, Black is King (the gift), Renaissance and Cowboy Carter we see Beyonce with a purpose and a message much greater than herself. The content/subject matter is heavy and very thought provoking. I’m so happy you guys got to experience and fall in love with Beyonce before she became political. I feel like you both understand the essence of her character and you recognize her intention. I think that will allow you to consume her subsequent projects with empathy and understanding. Unfortunately, here in America, association to either political belief immediately elicits hate which I think explains why a lot of people hate her without really knowing her. Beyonce worked so hard to gain the respect of the entire industry for over a decade. Instead of playing it safe for another 10 years, she chose to stand for something and that’s part of the reason why I love her so much. (Can’t wait for you guys to hear Ameriican Requiem- but also I can wait) Thank you for your genuine love and interest for Beyonce. That’s why we tune in.
