LGR - The MacPhone
Added 2024-05-29 01:21:13 +0000 UTCA classic kind of LGR thing this time around! Taking a look at the Intermatrix MacPhone from 1984, one of the early Macintosh add-ons from the year the system debuted.
Pretty straightforward episode here! Just going over a little history, unboxing and setting it up, and testing it out in various ways. To be honest this is an even simpler device than I thought it was going into this, heh. Hope y'all enjoy and thank you for your ongoing support!

Well, that was delightful as a break. I found out I had to release my first game today and not 10 days from now, but Macphone and a bath are healing things!

2024-05-30 16:08:28 +0000 UTCI fully intended to play "Macintosh Plus" through my actual Macintosh Plus from the start of this project! Really gotta get it working properly.

2024-05-30 16:02:32 +0000 UTCIt's a standard handset from the 80s, truly nothing of interest to see inside! Also I'd have to pry apart the 40-year-old plastic bits to do so and I'd rather keep it intact :)

2024-05-30 16:00:17 +0000 UTCConsidering it was also one of the *first* programs for the brand new Macintosh platform in '84, I can forgive some of that. Sort of... 😄

2024-05-30 02:41:29 +0000 UTCI could see this software being useful for something like a call center or for a law office (gotta bill every second!).

2024-05-29 20:42:19 +0000 UTCLOL, I was expecting to play a short snipet of Clubbed to Death anytime you mention InterMatrix :) Hehe, I only know that Macintosh Plus image/music from this meme: https://9gag.com/gag/ad5NO22 Should I even mention Adrian Black? He could sort out your Apple-related issues in no time :) Holy hell, all that empty box for $600? The main stuff is inside the handset, yeah, but the software side is the dumbest most basic software. It's like a half term project in a computer school. Probably that was it was, 2 students whipped it up at a long weekend. It's just sad...

2024-05-29 15:37:32 +0000 UTCI have something similar and better from IBM; the Voice Communications Option; could record your own messages, set it up like moviefone even, neat stuff, thought about doing some videos on it, but my production work sucks like a shop-vac. :)

2024-05-29 14:13:59 +0000 UTCWhat people who couldn't code had to cough up for such simple software still amazes me. o.o

2024-05-29 07:37:36 +0000 UTCPossible editing glitch with the blur at 14:08? Also, didn't expect Rich Evans to cameo in this episode, heh.

2024-05-29 07:03:49 +0000 UTCHey! Please disassemble the headset! I guess it's a regular phone internals in there, but it's interesting to see plus it will justify $60 a bit.

2024-05-29 04:46:24 +0000 UTCInsanely cool 80s tech. Love that you played some vaporwave through it haha.

2024-05-29 03:42:51 +0000 UTCWhen phones had actual bells! It’s funny, I left this plugged in a few days while working on this and any phone calls I got came through that ringing phone… caught me off guard every time in a good way, it made each call feel more special 🔔

2024-05-29 03:36:45 +0000 UTCthis vid gave me soooo much nostagia! It was really comforting to hear the ringer of the rotary phone...reminds me of grandma :( And I can totally understand the surreal feeling you felt! i felt it too..but like...for you! haha! the 80's...damn :( i wanna go backkk!! X(

2024-05-29 02:16:59 +0000 UTCFWIW, the date issue in Classic MacOS is actually not a Year 2000 issue but a Year 2020 issue! And it's not so much a problem with the OS itself, but it's just the Control Panel doesn't let you actually enter the correct date, even though the OS and all the apps will support it just fine. There are patches available to fix the control panel https://macintoshgarden.org/apps/2020patch or a third party tool to set the date instead of the control panel https://macintoshgarden.org/apps/setdate

2024-05-29 02:13:19 +0000 UTCI think you’re thinking of Dream Phone from Milton Bradley from the mid 90’s.

2024-05-29 01:31:44 +0000 UTCNeed this on one side, and a MacCharlie on the other! (And a System Saver on top.)
