LGR - Early Edit of VCF Midwest 2022

https://youtu.be/bICt3WRH4Bs

EDIT: IT'S DONE.

So this isn't done yet. Despite working on it daily for 8 days, it's currently about 98% there! But at this point I've been looking at all this footage for long enough that I needed to take a step back and take in the whole thing as a whole thing, so to speak. And why not let y'all in on that, right?

The main thing I have left to record is the intro, which won't be very long. I just haven't gotten around to it yet. And the rest is pretty much a pile of color correction, exposure adjustments, and white balancing. Plus the usual minor edits and line re-recordings that I'm sure I'll make over the next 24 hours.

I was hoping to have this done in time to have it posted publicly tomorrow, buuuuut nope! 300GB of footage shot by two people over the course of 8 days, all from different cameras and settings... yeah, it's a smorgasbord of small adjustments and nitpicky edits that add up quickly. Plus I keep finding things to say as I (re)discover various items I saw at the show, ha.

Hope you enjoy despite its slightly incomplete nature! I should have the final edit done tomorrow sometime, so I think I'll post the public version Saturday if all goes well.

Saw a Coleco ADAM on one of the tables. My first computer. It ran a form of BASIC, so it counts. Sort of.

Ralph Fontcuberta

Hope alls going well with your new house and all.

Rob Smith

Loved the panel with the other guys, some of them I am subscribed to on you tube. The others I have searched out and subscribed.

Rob Smith

It was that arcade machine that I discovered metamorphic force existed. nice.

CornetTheory

Not going to lie, there was a long list of people there that I would have happily spent hours talking too given the chance, yourself included Clint, think that would be a bit too much of a trip from New Zealand though.

Dave Langley

I would love to go to one of this. All the things I grew up with.

Brett Walton

woo! thanks for the early cut of the video! Dang, I really need to go to that one of these years.. hopefully i'll get well enough that I can do that :-/

Evan B

Loved seeing a shot of Space Quest 1 in glorious green!

Chad Armstrong

Thank you, it was good seeing you too!

LGR

I wish I'd gotten footage of your MIDI setup too, argh! And yes, even one weekend later would be nice. Knobcon looks dope.

LGR

Ah I wish you could! Lots of non-US folks were able to make it this year after a couple years of being locked out of the country, maybe a future trip? :)

LGR

I didn't, thanks for letting me know! It cleaned up nicely and matches the Aptiva well

LGR

Man this makes me wish I lived in the US just so I could come visit you guys.

Alyxx the Rat

Very good summary of the show! That little IBM Aptiva mouse was mine if you didn't write down my name. Was great talking to you both! I nearly talked to Luke for 20 minutes about cameras xD. Hope to see you guys next year!

Avery G

Yep! I bought a printer shown in that video and set up a thermal printer selfie station at VCF East earlier this year, I’m glad others are doing it too!

Mac84

Ha, that 'selfie station' with the thermal printer was almost verbatim something Techmoan talked about in one of his videos. About an identical Sony thermal printer too, iirc.

Ish Kabibble

Really great recap video, like last year. My wife and I will be watching your brother’s video like last year as well. It was good getting to see you again this year and I enjoyed the opportunity to get to take a picture together without the masks on. 😛

Stavros Karatsoridis

This was my fourth or fifth VCFMW, but my first time showing off my own gear. I'm really glad you liked the Casio Loopy - it's such a cool and unique system that could've been a smash hit if the marketing wasn't so narrow. Thanks to your (and everyone else's) footage from the event, I get to see everything I missed. I'm hoping next year has more space somehow and isn't the same weekend as Knobcon.

Danielle (thegirlg33k)

Just finished the early edit -- you've really mastered flowing narratives that keep the viewer engaged without feeling like they are "engaged". I enjoyed the non-VCFMW portions as much as the VCFMW portions! And it's always interesting to hear your point of view on some of the exhibits. Really fine work.

Jim Leonard

It was cool to say hi to you! I wonder if I'm in the video somewhere :-)

Eric Siegel

Happy to hear it, thank you!

LGR

Truly one of the craziest gaming experiences I've ever had! No idea how they plan to make that thing playable to the general public, but wow I hope more folks get the chance to try it sometime

LGR

Thank you! Yeah I hope you have some excuse to make it over there someday, it's well worth making a memorable day trip out of it.

LGR

Thank you, Steve! Yeah that LD player stuck around for sale there for longer than I thought it would.

LGR

My pleasure man, it was great to finally meet!

LGR

Wish You Were Here is easily one of my favorite albums, so ;)

LGR

Peri - you must promise to make every effort to attend next year! We missed you and the Lady!

InSyder

So many interesting things in one video :) That answering machine thing was hilarious and the r360 arcade was just crazy :)

Uncleawesome

At around 10:00, I thought Have a Cigar was starting :D

John Covil

I feel your pain! But it’s great when it’s finally finished eh? Good lad, enjoy a breather from it till then. 👍🕹️

Perifractic's Retro Recipes

Woah! So crazy that I got a shout-out. Thanks Clint! Great video as always.

Jeremy Mehrle

You did an awesome job of capturing the show! I can’t count how many times I walked the rooms, and I didn’t even get to see everything. But that’s why I enjoy everyone’s coverage, I see things I would have missed out on… and kick myself for not eyeing… like that Pioneer LaserDisc player sitting next to your eMachines tower! Hah

Mac84

To my untrained eye at least, everything looked good. You got some great shots. As NJB said, Chicago is definitely a beautiful city and I liked that part of the vid quite a bit.

DuckReconMajor

Wow, that looked like a great show! Thanks for sharing. I've added the Galloping Ghost Arcade to my Google Maps. I'm not sure why I would ever be in the area, but I don't want to forget about it, just in case. I also enjoyed the Chicago shots. It's a nice looking city.

Jason

Also the new Gopro footage looks really good 👌

TempleTurkey

Thank you, Jim! The tweaking gets outta hand quickly. It's nuts how much footage we got and yet I *still* ended up not getting footage of so many things I wanted to show. Not to mention all the shots I wish I could re-do. The inability to go back and reshoot anything really is one of the best/worst parts of filming a live event, heh.

LGR

I know the feeling when editing a long form video for ages. I agree it's best to step back for a while and recheck again with a fresh look.

TempleTurkey

If it helps, I feel your pain. But I'm sure it will turn out great.

Jim Leonard
