Profiting Off Disability

I assumed that there would be a bunch of grimey bean-counters at the top looking at dollar figures and how much they can get paid for twiddling their thumbs, rather than actually helping direct funding towards those that need it. I have met great LACs that want the very best for their clients and try to advocate for them, but often get punished by management for being too helpful by helping clients on the NDIS a way to navigate the system. Middle management seems more concerned with minimising costs and not providing answers as to what people can do with their NDIS plans, which means NDIS plan funds don't get spent, leading to NDIS clients getting smaller and smaller allotments of funding to help them. And on top of that, NDIS clients have their funding split up into categories that can only justify certain types of spending, (i.e. assistance equipment vs hiring a support worker), which are arbitrary amounts with little to no consideration for the justification documents (support letters, documents outlining needs, medical notes) that are submitted to request the funding in the first place.

I both love and hate your videos. I love that you report on this, but I hate how angry I feel after watching them. Apart from writing to my federal member (Go Tanya!), what else can we do? Well, on top telling people to watch your videos and supporting you through Patreon of course. Anyways, keep sticking it to them! Also, the river is pronounced "Yang-see". I used to work at a company that would do the independent assessments. A lot of people there are good people wanting to help those on NDIS, but then there is an ugly group of people that do not care and are just there to get paid. It absolutely sucks.

I'm a disability support worker (I work for a non-profit organisation) and I remember a service user telling me that their 'assessment' would include 'can you make tea' as one of their qualifiers for not requiring assistance with meals. To be assessed by a psychiatrist, because that's who was assigned. They have Cerebral Palsy.

I have family members on the NDIS and they refused to take part in the review trials in protest, as did many others according to the support co-ordinators I've spoken with. People with disbilities want to work with the health professionals who they know and trust no some random with boxes to tick.

I’m on the NDIS (I have MS), it’s like it now being modelled on WorkSafe, the amount evidence you are required to prove your disability is not going to improve any time soon is insane. Services have been hollowed out and forget about timely funding reviews. It really has become a one size fits all. It is a ‘pot luck’ on the quality of the NDIA person working on your case. Thank you FJ’s for highlighting what’s going on here. Good luck with your court battles. Thank you for trying to keep the bastards honest.
