Hm, I keep hearing Ultimate Chicken Horse pop up in conversation and comments online these days. I should look into that.

XCOM 2 almost made my list, it really was quite the enjoyable thing even if it felt so similar to the previous one.

I've been meaning to check that one out, actually! Had quite a few folks recommend it to me.

Certainly some stand out picks - there's been a bunch I've only *just* started getting to (for many, many reasons), but Doom is certainly a highlight. Both Firewatch & Dishonored 2 are ones I'm both looking forward to diving into as well.
A surprising standout for me was Battlefield 1 - which really had no right to be, but I really, really appreciated their approach with the War Stories being small playable chunks, made it a lot easier to digest compared to other titles. Also Lumo for being that wonderful homage to the 1980's isometric arcade adventure - certainly a nice one to revive a long forgotten genre :)

Differences are what make us who we are. You have several games on your list of which are genres I have never been a fan of.
Dark Souls 3 is probably in my top 5. I just played through the first two episodes of TWD season 3 (all that's available so far) and it's just as stellar as before. They really know how to craft a story at Telltale.

Only game I had time for this year was Pokemon Go, yes it was terrible but I couldn't stop playing it.

Not sure if you looks at these, but you should check out a game called Shardlight. It's awesome, and I think it would be right up your alley. It's a point and click adventure game, by the way. If you've played Gemini Rue, Shardlight is made by the same peeps. Its on Steam right now, on sale, so now would be a good time to pick it up.

Firewatch seems really cool. Gonna look into it for real now.

I've found some nice little games this year that I have bought in various Steam sales: Oxenfree, Stardew Valley and Beholder are the big three I've liked there. Still on my wishlist are Ultimate Chicken Horse, This is the Police and Planet Coaster. Game I've put the most hours into though remains Civ VI, though I liked Doom more than I expected and even Dishonored 2 I appreciated for what it was.

Solid list. I'd chuck on Shadow Tactics as well. My personal list would include Dark Souls 3 too, but I agree that the SoulsBorne series is a very acquired taste.

The best game of the year for me didn't even came out this year as promised. From fall 2016 to january 2017. But yeah give Night in the Woods a look next year dude! I am waiting for that one over 2 years now.
Wait did any other game came out this year which I played? I guess put in civilisation 6 because it was literately the only game I played in 2016 which came out in 2016.
