LGR - Rampage - DOS PC Game Review

Always loved this series of games in the arcades. And while there's not much reason to go back and play the DOS version these days of omnipresent arcade machine emulation, there's something strangely enjoyable about going back to it even still!

World Tour is probably my favorite, I plan to cover it in the future!

LGR

Hehe, nice. The Rampage games always seemed to be a surefire hit in bowling alleys.

LGR

Oooh classic! You should do more classic Midway pc ports! Awesome review. I personally loved World Tour :)

Princess Amber

yeah i loved this arcade game as well as a kid.. played it also, funny enough in a bowling alley arcade

I love collecting and trying out quasi-bad arcade ports to the PC, so I'm very much open to any suggestions :)

LGR

I'm really astonished you covered this! Happy, but astonished. I didn't think you'd be interested in a quasi-bad arcade port. (And if you are, hoo-boy do I have some suggestions for you)

Jim Leonard

How quickly those times changed, too! Just a handful of years later the PC was getting ports that were incredibly close to the arcade like Mortal Kombat -- even outperforming the Amiga in some ways!

LGR

REPEATEDLY

I went to the 8-bit bar pretty shortly after they opened. I should go back, it was fun and hopefully now all the games are fixed. a few weren't working but I still had a good time.

I loved how this game starts off in my birth town of Joliet, Illinois!

I think it says a lot about the IBM PC's place in the landscape at the time, that it used to get weak arcade ports like this. Back then, IBM PC was just one on a laundry list of platforms people were using regularly, and probably not a priority platform for game devs either. How times have changed!

RetroSwim

Reminds me of playing the NES port and grinding to about level 70-something, I don't even know if the game actually ends.

I just moved out of Peoria recently. That new beercade they put up on the riverfront is pretty decent.

Leif

as a local Peorian, this game was INSANELY popular, both at home and at the arcades. everyone I knew had a copy of this or the World Tour version.

mavrick

I could never really get into Rampage for whatever reason. *shrugs*
