SPEED CAMERAS

[Early Access]

Hello Patrons,

Feels like a return to normalcy this week, especially seeing as we've got a video about Jordan ragging on the NSW libs for you.

What have they done this time? They're phasing out warnings for speed cameras. A TRAVESTY, surely some Liberal voters you know must be incensed.

Thank you for your continued support of the channel,

This ABC story is hilarious: https://www.abc.net.au/news/2021-03-01/man-loses-bid-to-overturn-speeding-fine-because-of-big-tyres/13202380. The poor guy though who the court does not give him a break aye

Nah I think we actually agree on that really. Like I said, I'd like a focus on removing shit drivers off the road and teaching people to drive better. The demerit point system seems like a good thing to build off of to accomplish that, but fines not so much. Plus like you said getting them 2 weeks later isn't exactly very useful, it should probably be faster that you're notified you were caught and instead of a fine it should be something like demerit points and depending on how stupid what you did was either some educational program on driving you need to do by x date or just an explanation. Talking very generally because idk what exactly to do, but I'd like to move away from fines and focus on things that would directly improve road safety and compliance with road rules without financially punishing people and basically making a system where rich people don't mind getting caught a few times.

Do not make me elaborate cuz it's like 2am in Perth and I am shitfaced from a night out. Clearly have nothing else better to do than be on Jordan's patreon page

I do agree with driving education being dogshit but do strongly disagree with supporting speed fines. Quite nuanced but education is shit mainly because (context: live in WA) things like pushpull steering and left indicating on straight roundabouts make no sense. However, letters in the mailbox about $200 fines (no not just demerit points) about a 2-3 km increase on the speed limit have no evidence based implications on reduction road accidents and road death tolls.

Wasn't the reason mobile speed cameras passed in law was because they are meant to be a visual deterrent to speeding like fixed cameras or newer signage like blackspots etc? The entire reason it got public approval ratings was because they said, and did, reduced accidents and if you drive normal you were ok.

Do Liberals read research?

I'm very glad you still play the little child roles and had Mislav be the common sense dad. Keepin' it real yo. And that was some serious singularity man.

What dualpulse said ☝🏻👌

Wardrobe failure. Black microphones and black shirts.

Bring in proportional fines. A $600 fine is a drop in the ocean and no deterrent to a rich sportscar-owning repeat-offender. A $600 fine is crippling debt to a poor services worker. If they really want "revenue raising", LNP should introduce fines as a portion of yearly income.

Eh, every shit driver I know speeds and speeding fucks a lot of attempts to control traffic, plus everyone going at different speeds inherently will create risks (so people who drive under for no reason are almost as bad). We definitely need to focus more on education though, our training and education for driving is dogshit. I just mean instilling the idea in people that there is no road where "oh you'll never get caught here" is probably a good idea too, so long as you take the fines out of it so it becomes an exercise in actually promoting and enforcing safe driving and getting dangerous drivers off the road instead of just hitting quotas of fines.

Nicholas Faulks

Australia needs better driving education and training, not more speed cameras and radars. Speeding does not equate to shit driving.

I unironically like this policy. Remove or reform the fines, focus on demerit points. Make it about getting shit drivers off the road, and chuck up waaaay more speed limit signs and have highway patrol constantly move to random side streets and shit instead of camping in the same spot. Design a system that can't even be accused of revenue raising and that actually punishes shit driving in a way that doesn't fuck people financially.

Nicholas Faulks

Nothing like squeezing the ordinary folk to pay for the excesses of the LNP and their wealthy mates.

Is bruzzy trying to make sure more people get tickets so his own driving record doesn't look as bad in comparison?
