Great video as always! I'm very hyped for VR but at the same time I may just skip the whole first generation VR products altogether (considering Oculus Rft and HTC Vive as the first generation). The price tag is just too high and there are not very much content made for it. VR is gonna be the NEXT thing though, I'd like to give it a little more time for beefing it up and beef my computer rig up while waiting lol

Indeed, it really isn't quite ready for prime time yet, but the potential is just massive. And the more people working on code for it the better, so I hope you get your chance!

Really looking forward to testing out the Touch controllers when I can! Shame Oculus isn't pursuing roomscale more than they are, but I'm glad it's somewhat of an option right now, even if it doesn't give you as large of a play area as the Vive

Have both the Vive and Oculus at work, with the Touch controllers, all I can say is both these devices are going to deliver the same fantastic experiences. Future of VR is looking excellent at the moment :) The Oculus works incredibly well with room scale experiences and the new Steam VR driver allows you use the touch controllers for all the current Vive games. Gotta love Valve's openness.

I can appreciate the Room-scale aspect of the experience - but lacking the space, or the hardware for it, it's hard to get massively excited for it myself. It certainly feels like it's a more solid product than the Rift (that whole customisation aspect looks amazing), but I guess deep-down… I gotta wait for it to mature a bit before I'm in a place to want to justify grabbing a kit. (A shame, as I always wanted to mess about with coding something in VR all the same…)

Yeah, the "fix it yourself" design is awesome, you can tell the design decisions were made by real hands-on enthusiasts and not just in some board meeting. Haha, for both good and bad.

Have you tried it yet? :) My friend was in the exact same boat as you until he tried the Vive. Dude has the laziest/most efficient sit-down gaming setup I've seen, and yet after an hour with this he was ready to clear out the room and get one himself!

Totally, it's a great hint at the future but it's really not ready for the mainstream quite yet. Definitely a product for rich folks and crazed tech zealots right now.

I like that certain pieces of the hardware are modular. This helps longevity, which is something I always notice, but also can encourage the after-market to dive into customization options for personalized fit, aesthetics, and given enough time; maybe even functionality.

The Vive definitely looks like a step in the right direction as far as the future of VR is concerned, though given the price point, technical issues, installation, etc., I think more steps are going to be needed before it becomes something the average person dabbles in on a regular basis.

MMh..I am not yet conviced. The racing game is certainly cool but all the other stuff seems too simple. The actual gameplay would bore me pretty quickly once the VR novelty wears off. I see great immersion for space / flight sims but how do you use the keyboard for all the controls? Virtual Keys...I don't think so. Maybe I just like to sit down and grab a mouse to do some relaxed gaming. Nevertheless...great review..thanks.

Oh yeah, the next couple years are hugely exciting for VR, I can't wait!

I've played several games that do that, it's a really neat effect! Most recently I played Rooms: The Unsolvable Puzzle.

I agree with your review perfectly: it looks very cool, but it's got a pretty hefty price tag and not really any "full" title for it, except betas and Early Access. Plus don't forget that you need a powerful PC too. Nevertheless, it still gives hours of fun, and I'm sure in one or two years there will be more "killer apps" for it.

I have a DK2 currently, but I'm planning on getting the Vive in December-ish. That said, Sayonara Umihara Kawase has an interesting VR implementation. It's a puzzle platformer that just puts you in the 3D space of the stage itself, so you are more the camera than the character itself. Considering how crazy some of the stages get, it's actually really helpful.
