LGR - Strange Computer Designs of the 2000s

Comments

I'd love to poke around one, hehe

LGR

Wow, a lot of those were really strange, yet cool. Before we know it, you might end up with one of those Micky Mouse computers to be with the Hot Wheels computers. Heh

ReeseRiverson

Definitely wasn't, seeing as all the old reviews I can find mention how sluggish it is

LGR

Glad to here it! I hope those other, non-educational things are balanced out nicely as part of your complete retro technology breakfast.

LGR

The '80s is going to be a fun episode to make when I get to it!

LGR

Haha, would love to see that

LGR

Yep, that was one of many options! Think of it the same way as cell phones today can be customized with whatever you want, it was ahead of its time

LGR

Happy birthday!

LGR

However impractical it may be, it just looks super sweet

LGR

I never knew I wanted anything more than I do a pyramid computer

mavrick

Yeah a new LGR Episode to my birthday. Well that sounds dandy to me.^^

That dual monitor Thinkpad is something I have wished for many times. With today's technology, you could have two slide out screens that are lighter and low power.

The chumbawamba screen looks like the LCARS interface from Star Trek TNG. Guessing that's a "customization"?

There is an iMac G4 in a local coffee shop here, repurposed as a sign announcing coffee specials.

Mintaka

The portable PC reminded me of the Vulcan FlipStart's which I believe met a similar fate at the mercy of the NetBook market https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZuPeir86FVk Gotta love the character of these bizarre dead-ends of PC evolution, reminds me of the variety of the pre-PC days (Amigas/Ataris and the like)

Peter Bridger

I'd only seen a couple of these before, so this was educational. And that's what I come here for, among other things.

I remember us owning an Apple G4 'dome' computer. Thought it was pretty nifty at the time, but I don't remember it being a fast machine..
