LGR - Thrifts [Ep.23] Hot CoCo

LGR - Thrifts [Ep.23] Hot CoCo

Can I just say how adorable you sounded when you found that Tandy computer? It's like listening to a kid opening presents on Christmas morning, and getting the one thing they really wanted all year!

Jess the Stampede

Nice find with the Tandy. Retro computers are hard to find in the thrift store around me, but I did have some pretty amazing luck with big box games recently. Found Diablo 2, Silver, MDK, Stargunner, Colonization and Close combat Trillogy, all in great shape for (roughly converted) $15 total. And a weird edutainment game about endangered animals that had a little carrying handle on the box, for another $1.

Speaking of tape decks. I've got an tape deck by JVC for only 1,50€! Mann that thing was cheap and It works great only need to replace the eject switch with a piece of wood or something. I've also good a mid 80s pioneer amplifier for only 35€! That doesn't sound too impressive but it was already overhauled. And the craziest thing is you would have to spent at least 200€ for a modern one with the same specs except for the S/N Ratio but who ever pretends to hear a difference between 76 and 96 is a liar.

The video was running in background and suddenly I heard a sound of my childhood. I had the German version this computer called "Mein sprechender erster computer" / my talking first computer. I always referred to it as my first talking computer computer as I had some 286 IBM PC before that. Nice you found that. I will search for that cards. There are bar codes on the cards so I guess you can use them with any version of that device as the cards only start programs stored in the device. If I can find them, I will send them to you if you still need them until then...

Really cool finds. I wish there were a Goodwill near me, but the nearest one is a few cities away, and it's not worth making the trip there. There's only one thrift store of note in town, and while I've found some cool stuff there over the years, there are almost never any worthwhile video game finds. Their electronics section is basically nonexistent.

aaah i luuv dat thrift music theme, gets my head nodding sideways :D

Axonteer

I want to know more about the jar jar bust.

Justin Dotson

Lol, whoever priced that tandy up thought it was a keyboard I bet.

Cool Hand James

I'll give you $4 for that Tandy! That's a 33% profit! ;-)

pcwzrd13

great video !!

The Big bit of furniture with the radio and record player is called a radiogram !

Most excellent score on the CoCo 3! Can't wait to see a good little review of that in due course :D Sad about the Battletech (and related) games - would have been a *rad* find if they were all complete… alas :( Plus… talk about that Talking Whiz-Kid. Totally had one of those as a kid. Hearing the start-up sequence brought pangs of nostalgia to my ears. If memory serves, there's a base set of cards which *don't* need a cart - those might be easier to find than the ones that did (I remember a Space set at least). Great episode all up!

CoCo3. Noice. I have a CoCo2, wayyyyyy less cool than the 3. Nostalgic for me though, it was the first computer I ever used!

RetroSwim

"We're processing this video. Check back later."

Martin Ravensholt

The three bucks is what had me so excited! Can hardly get a better deal than that

LGR

Tested it last month when I got it, and YUP, haha

LGR

I have that joystick. It sucks... even in "good working condition". Just a fair warning... :P

I've been getting my MSX primarily by "right search at the right time" with eBay. The Panasonic was bought from a collector that was selling off their stuff (sad) and is the only one with a built in floppy drive and is MSX2+, the rest are normal MSX. The Casio was $35, which was the only reason I bought it because the Casio machines are hideously underpowered with chicklet keyboards, but they are super small. The Yamaha was $100 but included a lot, including boxed software, a BASIC manual, the FM Synth module and the Piano Keyboard for that. The Hitachi was $50 and is the only one with an external keyboard, and has the best keyboard in the lot, but it has a spot on the machine itself where you can rest the keyboard for that "all-in-one" form factor.

I could feel the waves of excitement when you got that Tandy Computer. And only for 3 bucks as well? What a steal. :D

The Enforcer

I've missed thrifts lately. I love this stuff so much. And it's been a while since I've heard you that excited in a video haha. The Tandy is an awesome find. And dude seriously, why hasn't Goodwill the company started donating to your channel? You are generating business for them big time.

Kevin

Old tape decks and VCRs are great to go and look at on occasion! Haven't made myself actually buy many of them yet though, hehe

LGR

This video makes me nostalgic for old tape decks and VCRs and such. Yay, thrifts, one of my favorite LGR video genres. :3

Mintaka

I did a little digging, and it's a GE Spacemaker 7-4270B - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LsEGnub3VUc for a demo of it in action!

Runefox

That's awesome, MSX machines are wonderful! Where have you been getting them from?

LGR

It is indeed! It's always a genuine shock to see one there

LGR

Go thrifting for a beefy jacket to keep you warm :P

LGR

Yeah, the mic and answering/message service featured on it is what has me curious. Can't seem to find specific info online, and I didn't think to look at the model number in the store

LGR

Aw man, those tape decks got me hot and bothered XD Also, I've actually been collecting some MSX computers and guff partially thanks to your MSX2 video, and I've gotten some really interesting computers which are the Panasonic FS-A1WX, Casio PV-16, Hitachi MB-H50, and Yamaha CX5M. If you ever find yourself in the Baltimore area for some reason then feel free to say hello XD

Great find on the CoCo! Always great to see some type of computer find at a Goodwill. :)

ReeseRiverson

I think that horizontal-loading cassette/radio thing is probably an under-cabinet kitchen radio. My grandparents had something like that (without the tape deck), and surprisingly you can still get similar items today. Interesting that it has a microphone and answering system in it - Probably a higher end model of its day.

Runefox

that triple play '97 longbox.....me want! also, ughhh I have not been thrifting in such a long time. winter is cold and I dont like to leave the house.

mavrick

Random and possibly outdated trivia! Just like the show! Awesome. Totally up my alley, though I think I'm going to stick with Pop Up Video reruns over the board game ;)

Lindsay Michelle

It was this right here: http://www.amazon.com/Pop-Video-Trivia-Board-Game/dp/B00000IZJA Didn't even realize there WAS a board game version!

LGR

Do it, man! Never know what you'll find til you find it :)

LGR

Thanks! It's such a neat lil machine

LGR

Ha! Comedian comedy.

LGR

I love these videos, they make want to go thrifting

Douglas Holmes

When you showed yourself on the Hot Wheels monitor, I said to myself "Man, what a dork!" but you obviously already knew this because you called yourself a dork at the end of this video. :) Also, I really want know what that Pop Up Video box was in the back at around 7 minutes in... loved me some Pop Up Video back in the day!

Lindsay Michelle

Congrats on the Tandy!

Andre Pothier

First you drop Jay Leno, now you're on Team CoCo? Strange times.
