This is my first foray into one-shot comics! It was a really fun experience, and I want to make more of these going forward, so I hope you'll be looking forward to it!

Zosia is so much fun, I've only drawn her head here, I can't wait to draw the rest of her lol. The decision to make her an owl was a very last-minute kind of decision, but I do think it was objectively the correct one.

And this is the final page of chapter 2! Sky Sea Saga will be in a bit of a hiatus, but I'm gonna be working hard on getting it running again as soon as I can. I also plan on posting some fun supplemental stuff in the meantime. Please stay tuned!

It was really fun getting to draw some crystal magic technology stuff! You can see the sketch strayed quite a ways away from the thumbs, it was all about finding the moments I most wanted to emphasize and giving them the space they need.

Okay THIS page! Was a bit of a nightmare lol! Drawing comics will inevitably pit you against your biggest weaknesses, and in my case it's anything mechanical, vehicular, interior, crocodile, alligator, I hope it's not TOO obvious! Even if it is, sometimes the best way to build experience is by putting yourself in a situation where you have no choice BUT to draw them. Sooner or later I'm gonna get better at drawing these things lmao

The part of this page that went through the most revision was the dialogue honestly! It can be really challenging to strike the right tone in as few words as possible, and I hope I managed to do that here lol.

This page was a lot of fun, I've been looking forward to giving Alexander a chance to cook since I started! I'm looking forward to letting him cook more too!

You can probably see in the sketch page some faint indications that I made some pretty substantial changes along the way, like how best to position the hands when cutting that onion. You learn something new with every page you make!

As much as I like the palette I'm working with for these pages, I think it helps vary things up a bit to work outside of it, so I always take the opportunities I can to make the colors pop a bit. ...I mean, you can't really see the palette in these sketches, but I hope you know what I mean lmao

That last panel was a lot of fun to do! I wanted it to be trippy and abstract from the start, and it turns out I didn't really need too much in the sketch phase to make that happen. As long as the elements were in the right place I could just go hog wild!

The biggest change here was the last few panels, most certainly for the better! I think the dialogue was going to be different when I initially thumbnailed this page, but I honestly can't remember how... Whatever it was, I'm glad I changed it to get Alexander's big goofy smile in there lmao

nanao's fun little life

I'm so endeared to Nanao, the saddest little creature imaginable. I would try some of her bread and water soup.

If you haven't heard of Robot Alchemic Drive, I HIGHLY encourage you to check it out. The first thing people hear about it is the terrible voice acting it got, so bad that it becomes charming, but beyond that it's one of those janky old games that are kind of really interesting? It's a wild game for sure.

The two most important parts of this page were Alexander's big wet sad eye and Min's mischievous laughter. They both got some alterations in the final page, I hope I captured them well enough!

This page is all about the expressions! My understanding of how to draw Alexander and Min has changed quite a bit since I started, but I think around here is where I could feel my understanding develop again. It's an exciting thing!

This was a fun page, I got to play with lighting some more and planning out the background was fun as well! It was challenging figuring out how to best frame Min grabbing Alexander's tongue, but I think I arrived at a pretty good solution.

To be honest I didn't even have a thumbnail for this one! I just kinda knew what I wanted this page to do. To be fair! I should still have had made a thumbnail lmao, it's always good to have! But still, I really like how this one turned out.

The only difference in this page is that it felt way better having Astrid on the left side of the first panel, otherwise it was pretty straightforward! Sometimes the pages just come together when you have a vision, it's like butter!

The first appearance of this mysterious lizard lady! And Astrid gets her namedrop! I'm so excited to flesh out their stories some more going forward!

This sequence of pages we're getting introduced to is a sequence that has existed fully formed in my head for quite a long time, so to be honest, the thumbnail was somewhat of a formality lol. I hope the rest of these pages has the effect I'm aiming for!

Some of the poses were challenging this time! Specifically hand poses and Min propping up Alexander's head. It's not too often I end up drawing characters directly interacting with one another, so it's always nice to have that opportunity.

The key to this page paste was in the expressions, and also in the colors. Honestly this entire section of the chapter was a major lesson in using color to set the mood. I learned how to use gradient maps for this page! Definitely not the last time I'm gonna be using those lmao!
